Mamelodi Sundowns sink Free State Stars

Posted: 10 November 2010 Time: 21:52

Mamelodi Sundowns beat Free State Stars 2-0 in a League match on Wednesday night.

The goals were scored by Matthew Pattison and Mabhudi Khanyeza.

With the Brazilians claiming three points, and closest challengers Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates losing and drawing respectively, it was a perfect evening for ‘Downs supporters as they moved well clear at the head of the standings.

Matty Pattison celebrated his call-up to the national team by slotting the opening goal in the seventh minute. Elias Pelembe whipped in a cross from the flank and the hard-running midfielder turned it home from close range to put his side 1-0 up early on.

The remainder of the first half saw the teams mostly restricted to long range efforts that rarely troubled goalkeepers Wayne Sandilands and Kennedy Mweene. The score was 1-0 in favour of Sundowns at half time.

The status quo remained until the three-quarter mark when Sundowns deservedly doubled their advantage through Mabhuti Khenyeza. The striker took advantage of some slack defending from the visitors to score in the 67th minute and seal the game for the Brazilians.

The remaining minutes saw no further goals or clear scoring opportunities, with Sundowns fairly content to sit on their lead, while Ea Lla Koto seemed to have the stuffing knocked out of them.

And thats the type of football i wanna see in the first team. thats why its important to promote morethan buying so that we can see that come through.

It makes no sense to develop players that will not benefit the team, i wish to see a starting line up made out of 7 development players and then i will be satisfied!

I see no one taking Three(3)points from Us.
These are the Mid Table teams that we need to Bury, and hit them Hard.

@ Wonder & Sizwe: I agree w u guys, we need to sell some players. I love Vuyo a lot but if he can't make it when Gaxa is no longer around, then i guess he might as well go. Even Mmotong must go though he is a good player, he can't match Pelembe. Surprise must also not be in the starting line up, he's off form. we also need to buy that Santos Goalkeeper & sell both BAloyi & Marlin... Otherwise, our league performance is impressing. If we can just open a 10 points lead, then we are CHAMPS

Hola ma"Organiser" good to see us at the summit after the weekend's dissapointment to Mazinyayellow.com.

But then I ca'nt afford to celebrate any victory anymore because Habas WILL change his team again against Wits, our line-up is inconsistant and causes us unnecessary heartaches in the process.

I fear Lopez our coach more than any opponenet right now,,,,,,infact.....We are our own worst enemies. Eysh.

Yellow otherwise! mh!

Lets keep on going boys, but why the coach plays Xulu on right back while we have right back. i think Xulu n thapelo can do the job at centere back. i miss the downs which score more than 2 goals in the game hwo said we must score maximum of two. anyway thanks for yellow three points.

Kgabo: Mungomeni is still injured and the only natural right back available is Vuyo so are u saying we should have played him? No ways organizer especially after what he did against Maritzburg. He's kissed that position goodbye and unfortunately has no-one to blame bt himself. This is what happens when you don't take your job seriously. The sad part is that his contract is coming to an end this season. He must start preparing for life with Sundowns.

@Kgabo: where do u get the newws that Habas is no longer the coach? @ I hate Chiefs fans: Vuyo benching/sitting on the stands yesterday was right and i approve of it but to let him go won't be a good idea. Look @ Tau @ Amakhosikazi, he once did a blunder agst University of Pretoria but was retained & now he is proving his worth. Lebo Mokoena also missed a sitter, tha even my grand-pa would have scored, but that doesn't make him a bad player....running out of ink....ka bo yellow
