Vasco da Gama deny Kaizer Chiefs three points

Posted: 1 March 2011 Time: 22:01

Kaizer Chiefs endured a frustrating goalless draw against Vasco da Gama on a hot Tuesday night at Athlone Stadium.

The first half was for the most part evenly balanced – Vasco were not unduly troubled, though it was Chiefs who certainly enjoyed the edge.

Chances though were few and far between with Mthokozisi Yende managing a weak attempt before Tlou Molekwane forced keeper Posnett Omony to fist the ball to safety with a rocket of a shot after 22 minutes.

The half at least ended with a bit of a flourish as first Vasco’s Keenin Lesch completely missed the ball when attempting a volley 12-yards out and then Abia Nale, clean through on goal, was denied by Omony, who made a brave save.

Amakhosi were on top after the restart, spending most of their time camped in the Vasco half.

But the home side’s defence was rock solid, with Mokete Tsotetsi in particular in superb form against his former team, meaning that the visitors struggled to find any space in and around the box.

The introduction of both Stanton Lewis and Knowledge Musona added fire-power, yet neither were able to get on the end of any clear-cut chances as Chiefs continued to be frustrated.

The draw gives Orlando Pirates and Ajax Cape Town the chance to steal an advantage over the Phefeni Glamour Boys in the title race on Wednesday while Vasco move another point closer to a second season in the top flight.

V.V u r starting to confuse your self and player, for the past 4 games we were playing 442 formation and get positive results, yesterday u got it wrong with lone striker formation, last game Josta played 90min last night was never played, why sub Nale cause he was complimenting Masinamela well, second half U opt to go with 3 strikers who was going to supply them with crosses, Vasco packed the bus the only way to stretch the defense was through the wings, Masango must be loaned or sent back to the development, Chiefs got Quality players the problem is coach tactics & formation, inconsistence line up. 451 to me means u r aiming for a point that's what happen last night. The race still on keep your head up boys. Khosi one

Can anyone please answer me here? Is this mediocre team the same team people have been praising that it will massacre the Mighty OPFC and that it will overcome Vasco as a result they will be crowned ABSA Champs? Do we really know what the champs are made of? Last time I checked champs are not made of shameful players like Masango and one year-half-wonder player like Mosono and one-legged player like Tshabalala...never!

Where is the coach now with his sentiments that his team is the best? if this is the best...haaai...I don't know what will the definition of BEST be. In fact teams like Rabali Blackpool will also fall within that category...lol

even if Ajax win and OP loose, Chiefs will still be No.3, not No.1, as you want!

All I can say is my team tried but I guess it wasn't enough. I should have believed that sangoma (pirats and sunclowns supporters club) when he said we were going to loose. I also blame lekgwathi and U2 for Shabba's injury. I think we have dropped enough points (cape town especially) all we have to do now is start winning and hope the other teams start loosing. I don't have a problem with the coach, he rested other players and that lewis guy is coming alright um pleased.

It was their last opportunity to taste the 1st spot overnight and they blew it. They will never come close to that because Orlando Pirates will be running away with the league from here..!!

chiefs will take 3 points 2nite ''up the pap'' will lose 2morro. we'll stay on top forever. 2nite Sonono COWza fc fans will not sleep early cos ba tla be ba ''minya'' with their asses wishing Chiefs 2 luz.

I am so happy to announce that the draw kings have done it again.

Morale of this: DON'T TALK TOO MUCH BEFORE A GAME. DON'T CELEBRATE AS IF YOU'VE ALREADY WON WHEN YOU LEAD BY ONE GOAL. DON'T BE JEALOUS WHEN OTHER TEAMS ARE ON TOP OF THE LEAGUE. DON'T EXAGGERATE YOUR ACHIEVEMENTS. IT IS TRUE THAT CHIEFS BEAT PIRATES TWO TIMES THIS SEASON BUT IT IS ALSO TRUE THAT PIRATES BEAT CHIEFS ONE TIME THIS SEASON. THAT YOUR COMMENTATORS AND YOURSELVES FORGET TO MENTION THAT IS HYPOCRISY. NOW NURSE YOUR BROKEN HEARTS FOR I KNOW YOU ARE HURTING. THERE'S NO USE HIDING IT. THE ONLY THING THAT WOULD MAKE YOU HAPPY IS IF PIRATES DO NOT WIN TODAY. BUT IT WILL HURT MORE IF IT WINS BECAUSE OF YOUR JEALOUSY.

The house is now divided.

Others say players are average

Others say the coach lacks expirience and his tactics are not sound.

Others are saying the team manager Bobby is useless

Others say its financial challenges

Others asked why close the development

This league actually reminds me of the time when chiefs was never at the top of the log the whole season until the last day. In that year, we had to win all our 5 remaining games to win the league. The late scara and Mbesuma did the job and happy people cried until they had no tears. this time, it will be musona and yende!

Enjoy it while it last NOT over until it is over!

But worrry not, we have accpeted that chiefs cant be on top now. We cant prtend like that. We will take this league in May and not now!

To all of you who are tipping Ajax as potential threat, u better think again.

Sundowns is my biggest concern.

Chiefs next game is againts Steve Kompela not Free state stars. VV i had warned you in advanced but you kept going waiting for a big embarrasment.

Even position 3 is no longer save for them because they now have to compete with Sundowns over it.

Having seen Chiefs play under VV, I can conclude that if it wasn't for their keeper ( Khune),they would be somewhere in the middle of the log.Josta Dladla and Abia Nale can't even express themselves freely because they are scared of this foreign coach.

It was the same with Swallows game.If a keeper can get a man of the match award ,you just know the story.

Its amazing how a team like chiefs can harass pirates throughout the season but still cant beat Pirates. But as our coach normallly say: "its ok".

Bobby once said: "this is football. anything can happen. and i remember that one sunday when chiefs won the league on the last day".

Advice, Never wite-off a team that has won so many trophies more that any team in the history of SA football.

Kaizer Chiefs fans will never stop talking because we believe in ourselves and them. We are the best and it will continue that way.
