Mamelodi Sundowns beat Kaizer Chiefs 2-0

Posted: 1 May 2011 Time: 18:05

Mamelodi Sundowns lifted themselves to third on the League table and gave their title hopes a boost with a 2-0 win over Kaizer Chiefs on Sunday.

Goals from Nyasha Mushekwi and Elias Pelembe secured the victory for the Brazilians, taking them five points adrift of leaders Ajax Cape Town with a game in hand.

Amakhosi are six points back from the top with just two rounds of the season remaining.

The match started at a furious pace, and Chiefs created better chances in the first half; three times they broke the Sundowns offside trap but they were unable to capitalise on the opportunities.

Mandla Masango had two of the chances, first being brilliantly challenged by makeshift right-back Siyabonga Ngubane, the second time curling his shot wide of the far post.

Josta Dladla also went one-on-one with Waynde Sandilands after a great pass from Mthokozisi Yende but was denied by the goalkeeper.

Just past the half-hour mark Sundowns broke the deadlock.

Chiefs were unable to clear their lines after repeated attempts on goal from Teko Modise and Katlego Mphela.

Eventually Mphela guided the ball away from traffic in the middle of the box towards Nyasha Mushekwi, who took advantage of poor positioning from Itumeleng Khune to score with a left-footed shot.

And just seven minutes into the second stanza, the Brazilians doubled their lead.

Mphela was again the architect, providing a looping cross from the right of the penalty area, and Pelembe crashed home an unstoppable volley.

Chiefs reacted by using all three substitutions within 11 minutes of going 2-0 down and they proceeded to dominate the remainder of the game.

However, they were unable to find a way past Man of the Match Sandilands, who made several excellent saves.

Sundowns could have even added to the scoreline through Mphela, who found himself one-on-one with Khune, but his chipped finish drifted just wide of the post.

Ok its Ok jst do me one more last favour Kaiizer Chiefs beat Ajax in Polokwane.

It is interesting when people forget that Ajax as well do choke like the rest, they will not win all their remaining 2 games so is Sundowns, Sundowns wont be able to beat Amazulu on wednesday. So Rudi Krol please whip Santos on saturday so we can go back on top.

Why did VV substitute Yende? he was the only player making those seaters for Ngcobo, Dladdla and Masango to miss, its not over yet...

Hahahahahahahaha....Chibuku fans are true idiots. We know a Sundowns win is not what you wanted. I hate Sunkak but I hate Chibuku more. As long as you don' win the lig I am fine. As for bragging that Chiefs will not win the Nedbank hahahahahahahahahaha... you dogs make me laugh. I thought Chibuku was not interest in Cup seeing that you have only won 1 in 10 years. But if we have to talk about cups here is some homewok for you dimpya ke lona. Add ur few cups witthj those of Sunkak and multiply by 5 and you will still not match the mighty Amakhosi.

What is your team playing for now? I think it's important for you to answer this because it will ease your tension and stress.

No need to watch a game involving Cabbages because they have already been eaten out since their season is over...it's useless to watch it let alone a team.
