Santos and Pirates draw

Posted: 7 May 2011 Time: 17:02

Orlando Pirates laboured to a 1-1 draw with Santos at the Athlone Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Despite dominating play throughout the 90 minutes, the Sea Robbers needed a last minute equaliser to grab a share of the spoils and remain in the title hunt – two points off leaders Ajax Cape Town.

Pirates conceded as early as the seventh minute, Erwin Isaacs getting on to Ricardo Skippers’ long ball to side-foot home; Jacob Mokhasi caught in no-man’s land.

Pirates stormed back, at least they tried to, but they found it hard to create chances against a resolute Peoples’ team defence.

Dikgang Mabalane was unfortunate to be denied by the post in the 22nd minute after a speedy counter had seen him break free down the right, while just before the break Lucky Lekgwathi flashed a header wide from a corner.

This was little respite for Santos in the second half as they found themselves regularly defending corners and crosses into the box, while the likes of Rooi Mahamutsa and Oupa Manyisa regularly got shots in, most of which were off target or blocked however.

Andile Jali also did his bit in attack and would have picked out the top corner with an 80th minute rocket were it not for a superb save by man-of-the-match Tshepo Motsoeneng.

But finally the pressure paid dividends when in the 90th minute Bongani Ndlulula made space in the box before flicking the ball into the net, with his back still turned partially to goal.

Jali was denied a late winner by yet another Motsoeneng save as the Cape side survived a late onslaught.

Now I accept That Bucs won't win this lig this season n I urge all our sapotas to understand me. We had a huge chance, we blew it. Let hop we don't dissapointed in the nedbank cup. Cause wth Krol anything is posible. Y insist on players who have not score for long time or assist the team to skore. Eg mbuzane, MasHeko, malusaka. Our keeper is useles, had we had joseph, bucs would num 1. Everyday we conceed a atleast a goal, even when senzo was on post

shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!the reason chiefs fans are happy is the 4 0 drubbing of this boys, they have to admit!
as for OP, they need to sort out the adminstration part of the team, Lucky must know if he has a future or not with the team before the 21, the coach's contract is coming to an end as well next month, there must be an indication if he is staying or not, the Motaungs made a bold step before they went to Polokwane, and it paid off! what is Jomo Floyd Mbele and the chairman going to do? this will stabilise the team towards, the Aces and the final game of the season! you dont need an uncertain captain captain in your team during this critical stages of your campaign, and if it was the coach alone I woul understand, he is a man he can take it, but a captain and a defender? water will come in mark my words!

is Ndlulula the solution to OP strike force? think he must start the remaining games ahead of Mashego, and see how well will he fare, judging by what he did for the under23s and coming on to get an equaliser, think he is ready! thanks to the coach for giving him 38+ min, Mayambela and Tlou are tired, we need Klate back to give that expirience, maybe Tlou will be rested for this week! the game against SSU? he was as bad as that goal keeper yesterday! Senzo must go, muthi is no longer working for him, as for this Mokhasi, wonder how many seasons are still left for his contract, he must be loaned to Baroka if they dont gain promotion!

KROL must play as lone striker, I have asking this all along how can u score with an a$$ and expect to win de league? Orphans will be out of the Nedbank mark my words, considering how they won de MTN8 with that Mashego goal. Looking at 7 past games for Oprhans one can tell that the has fake strikers.

We're losing the focus on crucial stages of the league...I'm really dissapointed by both the technical staff & some of the players who dont show commitment @ all.

We still in the race though...
