Orlando Pirates beat Platinum Stars

Posted: 17 April 2011 Time: 17:08

Happy Jele scored the winner as Orlano Pirates regained top spot in the Absa Premiership standings following a 2-1 victory against Platinum Stars.

Isaac Chansa opened the scoring after just seven minutes, but Stars hit back straight away through Sibusiso Msomi.

It was a quick start to the game from both sides and consequently we saw two goals in the opening ten minutes.

Pirates were the first to score in the seventh minute. Chiukepo Msowoya drove down the left flank and made his way onto the edge of the box before he supplied a pin-point pass to find Chansa unmarked only a couple of yards out from goal. All he had to do was side-foot the ball into an empty net and he made no mistake.

However, Stars hit back almost immediately when they found the equaliser three minutes later. Some more good work down the flank, this time by Ayo Oluwafemi, saw him supply a good low cross into the box. Msomi got to the ball ahead of his marker to fire his side level from 12-yards out.

At the start of the second half Pirates did manage to find their second and it came in the shape of a wonder goal. Jele let loose with a pile-driver from 25-yards out that found the top left-hand corner of the net.

After that Stars tried desperately to hit back and applied pressure on Bucs’ goal, mounting attack after attack.

Bradley Grobler came close to scoring in the 66th minute for the home team when he fired a powerful shot from the edge of the area, but the Pirates keeper was up to the challenge.

Substitute Ntumba should really have leveled matters in the 76th minute when he met a cross from the left, but he directed his header wide of the target from only a couple of yards out.

In the end Pirates’ defence held firm and they picked up all three points which sees the Buccaneers back to the top of the Absa Premiership.

I agree wt u, Pirates z nt gonna win da league playing like this & for da ff reasons:

1. I-coach yethu yinkomo evilapha ukucabanga... Hw cn he employ defensive tactics when da league z likely to b won o goal difference. Pirates were just too slow in adding numbers upfront...
2. Lack of discipline. Abt 4 or 5 players started today's game wt 2 yellow cards. To aad on to dat Jali & Mashego got demselves unnecessary bookings. Da less said abt Segolela's booking da beta. He shd knw by nw dt arguing wt da ref gets u nowhere bt in his book...
3. Mashego z useless wt all his bck passes & Mayambela must stop playing lyk dis is a pre-season tournament. It's da business end of da season 4 crying out loud...
4. Meyiwa z also sitting on two yellow cards & he's got a tendency of tym wasting which will lead to him getting suspended & we can't afford to experiment in his position at this tym of da season...

So da season z ova 4 Bucs wt only da MTN 8 Cup if dey contunue playing lyk dis...

Krol must leave cum end of da season weda he wins da league or not. We need an attack minded coach...

I'm rily nt pleased wt today's performance...

Pirates till I die, anyway...

Keep winning boys but am not satisfied with ur lack of capitalizing on week opponents with more goals tht will be VITAL come the end of the season,,,,,

Am certain tht goal difference will play a huge role to the league decider therefore i wish bucs players were aware of tht fact,,,but nonetheless we welcome the three points with OPEN ARMS,,,,,,,,

Operation Tsipa is still on full swing so get used to it haters.

So far so gud Bucs I hav bn telling my collegues dat poeple must join d cue there is plenty of what they r lookin 4 {hiding} from Pirates.

This was a touch game. If you are not carefull stars will show you just that... Ask Chiefs, they are not to be taken lightly. Pirates showed their mental strength and played hard and not entertaining football. Now it is up to Ajax, Chiefs and Sundowns to talk it out, if not Pirates will take it .

Guys, you stress too much. Pirates will win the league with a game to spare. We don't need to score 100 goals per game because there won't be a need for the league to be decided on goal difference. For as long as we win our games we'll be home & dry.

Chiefs has our back remember? The more they win the more they will feel they have a realistic chance of winning the league therefore they will eliminate both Ajax & Sundowns from the race.

@TOAT. I fully agree with you. Jika majika will do us that favour. Trying to score many goals we'll back fire. Remember what happened when we were playing celtics? Lets just try to win. We'll entertain and score 100 next season.
