Mamelodi Sundowns beat Mpumalanga Black Aces easily

Posted: 2 March 2011 Time: 21:30

Mamelodi Sundowns beat Mpumalanga Black Aces 2-0 in a League match on Wednesday night.

The Brazilians scored their goals through Matthew Pattison and Katlego Mphela, while AmaZayoni played nearly two thirds of the match with ten men but still put up a respectable performance.

The opening 30 minutes provided entertaining action, as both Aces and Sundowns looked intent on playing an attacking game.

Sundowns effectively wrapped up the game in a five-minute spell after the half hour mark that saw them score two goals either side of a harsh sending off for Aces defender Marc Eberle.

First, in the 32nd minute, the Brazilians opened the scoring through Matthew Pattison, who latched onto a square pass from Elias Pelembe and provided a superb finish into the top corner of the net from the edge of the box.

Two minutes later, AmaZayoni were reduced to ten men when centre-back Eberle was shown a straight red card by referee Charl Theron for a foul on Richard Henyekane just outside the penalty area.

Television replays suggested that the decision was incredibly harsh: Eberle’s foul was neither malicious nor particularly late, and Aces had James Madidilani coming across to cover, thus the German defender was not clearly denying the Sundowns striker a goal scoring opportunity.

Aces would have felt hugely aggrieved at the decision, but their anger was compounded when Mphela scored a superb goal direct from the free kick that was awarded for Eberle’s foul, making it 2-0 to Sundowns in the 37th minute.

The hosts reshuffled somewhat at the start of the second half, sending on Lindokuhle Mbhatha in place of Madidilani to give them more balance in their ten-man line-up.

And, although they were at a numerical disadvantage, Aces actually looked the likelier scorers in the first 20 minutes or so of the second stanza. Both Myron Shongwe and Mpho Maleka fluffed free headers in the penalty area, while Makhanya was unlucky to see a superb long range shot rebound off the underside of the crossbar with Wayne Sandilands well beaten.

Sundowns themselves hit the woodwork in the 67th minute, with Mphela’s shot skimming the top of the bar after substitute Nyasha Mushekwi had made a mess of a good scoring chance of his own before teeing up a chance for ‘Killer’.

The Brazilians also ended the game with ten men after substitute Surprise Moriri picked up two unnecessary bookings in the mere 26 minutes he was on the pitch. However, it wasn’t enough to spark any kind of comeback from the hosts.

3 points highly appreciated but m having doubts if Downs is going to win the Lig mainly becos of our stupid coach, did it has to take him 81 minutes to replace that cow Pattison n 63 minutes to replace Henyekane, clearly every one could c that they r not in the game. Those guys should hv been replaced immediately when the second half start n Modise n Mushekwi should hv been introduced.

Aces used our left flank to attack us coz there was nobody operating there n worse part Mwanjali was playing left back hence i say Teko should hv been introduced. Those decisions were very easy to make.

Its like our coach decide before hand that he will replace Zothwane even though he is playing well which is not fair, no body was playing those killer passes after he was taken out.

Pathetic!!! That's how to describe Sundowns perfomance nowdays! Extremely pathetic. How do you play a 10 men bottom of the laegue team & fail to score??? what if we are to lose the league to pirates through GD??? This Ferreira guy allowed too many free headers & Method also allowed too many crosses to be whipped into our 18 yards. We should have scored more after they were reduced. Henyakane was extremely poor & Nyasha should start the next game. Papi is too lazy. Otherwise 3 points are warmly appreciated. KA BO YELLOW

Congratulations Sundowns but Aces was robbed. The freekick that led to the second goal and redcard was a big mistake from the referee. There was absolutely no foul there..!

I'm happy with the win but we still struggle 2 play the full 90mins. Under Habbas we wud relax the 1st half, only to come with full steam in the second half and now it's the other way round. Gorowa needs to instil consistency throughout the game, otherwyz we are on the right track.

We need talk while winning......

1. Ferraira is lacking match fitness but he will ok in the next two games....!

2. Is Mdledle that bad that a right footed player can play his positon..!

3. Henyakanye lost his touch due to luck of game time but his runs are making a good difference...he will fine sooner....!

4. Zothwane had bee the missing link for Sundowns for 3/4 of the season...!

5. Ian Gorowa is not bad coach....lets not put pressure on him yet...he might be what the doctor ordered for our player...!

6. I have no choice but to forgive Mphela because of his professionalism on field of play....he is delivering...!

7. The coach might need to sacrifice Mutezwi(Nyandoro) with Mushekwi.....we need wins...and the best way is to attack...and score goals....!

8. Sundows will win the league....Pirates will flatter against Celtic and Ajax......Period!!!!

There was a time when Moriri was the main man for sundowns but nowadays he has become a liability. it puzzles my mind as to why he came in instead of Teko. This gorowa guy is not good for the team like sundowns.
i heard José was on the stands in one of the sundowns' games, is it true?

we are playing golden arrows , i am not worried , they are slowly becoming relagation candidates and nowhere they will start 2 turn the corner on us

Musheki is the man 4 this game , Mphela is going to score no secret about it. in wish heineken can score this tap in goals because he gets maybe four of them during a game

Teko may have not done much since joining sundowns but he is a better player than Moriri given both their poor forms at the moment. Moriri doesn't offer anything to team anymore at least with Teko, he spread some passer plus make some good runs towards the opposition's box
