Mamelodi Sundowns lose to Free State Stars

Posted: 19 February 2011 Time: 18:04

Free State Stars put a massive dent in Mamelodi Sundowns’ title hopes with a 2-1 win over the Brazilians at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Saturday afternoon.

In Ea Lla Koto’s first game at the Limpopo venue, goals from Thabo Matlama and Phumlani Mhamha handed them an impressive victory. Sundowns scored their goal through striker Nyasha Mushekwi and welcomed back Katlego Mphela, but it was still a massively disappointing result for them.

The hosts had what looked like a legitimate penalty after Innocent Mdledle tripped Madoda Motha inside the box in the 10th minute, but the referee waved play on.

However, their reward arrived when Matlama was set up by Boitumelo Sekgobela before beating Wayne Sandilands with a low shot in the 25th minute.

But Stars’ joy was short-lived as Sundowns surged forward with much precision and equalised via Mushekwi’s brave header after a long ball from Matthew Pattison in the 27th minute.

However, in the interim, Mushekwi collided with Stars keeper Kennedy Mweene and had to be replaced by Katlego Mphela in the 28th minute. Mphela was playing his first game for Sundowns since he returned to the club after a self-imposed exile.

Teko Modise, who was playing behind the strikers, failed to live up to expectations associated with the number 8 on the back of his jersey, and was eventually replaced by Richard Henyekane in the 80th minute.

Sundowns' best effort in the second half came from Mabhuti Khenyeza, but after receiving a cross from Elias Pelembe in the 59th minute, the Sundowns striker ballooned his shot over the bar.

As if not to be outdone, Matlaba also directed what could have been his second for day over the bar with Sandilands off balance in the 69th minute.

However, Komphela’s charges never looked back in a bid to regain the lead, and it came as no surprise when, after a corner kick from the right, Mhamha out-jumped Thapelo Tshilo before beating Sandilands with a beautiful header in the 73rd minute to seal the game for his team.

How desperate can Sundowns be!? Playing Mphela so soon after such a long absence from training with the team!? Hah! That is desperate. Sundowns is a one man team and that cannot be denied further after today. Modise old age has caught up with him. The league race is now officially a 3 horse race. Sundowns aikhohlwe. I repeat, useless expensive team. Until the supporetrs reaches teh age of 23, ( maturitynyana), Sundowns will never be succesfull.

To hell with Mphela and the coach for playing him ahead of Henyekane. I mean what message is Gorowa sending to the players who have been working their sox off during Mphelas' absence.

I give up. We lost this league to ourselves.

Thanks to:
1. The "Fans" for over-reacting and forcing the coach to leave. When his only crime was losing 5 games with key players either suspended or injured.
2. Mphela for being a professional and ditching us when we needed him most.
3. Glyn Binkin for brainwashing Mphela
4. Sundowns management for not taking proper action by suspending Mphela.
5. Motsepe for listening to Pisto and going back on his word by allowing Mphela back.
6. Gorowa for playing Mphela after only 3days of training showing his committed players the middle finger. GREAT LEADERSHIP GOROWA.

So when are stupid fickle fans going to protest at Chloorkop for Gorowa to get the chop??? We were three points behind Pirates when Habas was booted and tonite we will be nine points behind Pirates.

When Teko moved to Sundowns are asked why the president pay 6 million for a player who can't make a starting 11 at Pirates??? Idiots were rejoicing praising Teko like he was our saviour. Habas should have been left until the end of the season.

Gorowa is stewpid& useless as ay in okay. 1. Against Pirates he played unfit Mushekwi(only trained wt a team on friday after nursing injury sustained against Santos) ahead of fit khenyeza&henyekane. 2.Today he played unfit maphela ahead of committed henyekane.why?????

Bafana ba stlaela are out of league race. Chiefs will take the league without competition from the "kakzilians" or "up the pap"

The circus continues in my team. I repeat what i said last time Sandilands uvimba amasimba. Chiefs, Santos, Pirates and Free State Stars goal all came from crosses where this average keeper hesitated to come out in order to fist the ball but never did. We might as well kiss the league goodbye. Rubbish is what is covered under all Sundowns players pants. Nx!
