Kaizer Chiefs beat SuperSport United at FNB Stadium

Posted: 13 April 2011 Time: 21:33

Kaizer Chiefs beat SuperSport United 2-0 at FNB Stadium on Wednesday evening to ensure they remain in the League title race.

Goals from Knowledge Musona and Reneilwe Letsholonyane either side of the break saw the Amakhosi pick up the points, leaving them just three behind log leaders Orlando Pirates and Ajax Cape Town.

United now find themselves in a relegation dog-fight, but they only have themselves to blame after yet again failing to make their dominance count.

SuperSport did start a little slowly and fell behind in the 15th minute when Musona found the back of the net. Letsholonyane won the ball in midfield and played a swift pass to Siphiwe Tshabalala, who cleverly slipped the ball through to Musona and left him with only Rowen Fernandez to beat, which he did with ease.

After that SuperSport found their footing and almost hit back immediately through Fikru Tefera, but he was denied by a fantastic save from Itumeleng Khune.

As the half progressed United’s presence became more pronounced and they certainly ended the stronger of the two sides.

The second half was more of the same and saw United with the lion’s share of possession.

But the closest they came to finding an equaliser was in the 70th minute when Thabo September attacked down the right and whipped an inviting cross into the box. Magogi Gabonamong did well to rise between two defenders to meet the ball with his head, but his effort went inches wide.

Two minutes before full-time the result was put beyond doubt when Letsholonyane found Chiefs’ second goal.

A quick counter-attack saw Abia Nale break down the left before providing a pass to Yeye, who made no mistake from the edge of the area, though Fernandez should have done better.

I don't blameyou as KC always have that effect on soccer lovers. King the Village Queen should be reported to his bosses for abusing company resources as he will be all over the place tomorrow on company resources of coz...just like Crawl would have said it

When I supported Chiefs in the 80s it was playig almost like this. It was "still waters". When it seemed as if it was not in the game, that is when it killed clubs, however the trick was always that we had good coaches who knew what they were doing and why players were playing they were playing. But tonight the problem was we were underpressure and did not have answers untill Josta came. The blame is laid squarely on the coaching stuff, because we are not palying in cohesion, and are not keeping the ball, Why? A win alone like that is satisfacory as we can easily loose tomorrow and you we will blame players when that happens. Coached please up your game, give us some structure, and let us playing and keep the ball with arrogance. When is a strategy to absorb pressure we must do so purposefully, not aimlessly and hope to come out of the woods/pressure by luck. We need to have a deep understanding of our own game. We need to STILL WATERS under pressure, and a joy to watch when in possession.

Khosi it gonna take the leaugue, MARK MY WORDS. The only time that Khosi will be number one is when we finish.

Hangwe, habedi, hararo, ke Phetho.

I'm a Pirates fan but I'm afraid of Chiefs, they gonna go on top when playing Ajax on the 7th of May, mark my words, Chiefs never contend 4 the league title like this, Once you compete with Chiefs with few games to go, you'll never win,

Anyway a ball win roll accordingly,,,,,,

i will not raise my hopes. I wish with all my heart that KC win the league but we have many rivers to cross. 3 points is 3 points, we will take it any way we can. I'd rather play badly and win than play well and lose or draw @ this stage. All the best Boys. Behind you all the way. Eish diski neh?

What does it say about our soccer standard when a team that have been accused of the following is 3 points behind the league leaders

- Plays the least attractive football
- Have a very slow leaky defence
- Does not have depth
- Lack quality players
- Has not made sound investment in players as owners are stingy

If a team with all these flaws is in contention for a treble this season what does it say about the team that has no above flaws at all? I think as fans we rush to crit when there is very little difference between my team(Chiefs)and others that goes on spending spree season in season out. What are we gonna do when we end up with a treble without quality that is so well documented throughout this blog?

You cannot beat Chiefs character and that rises above everything else. Ba tla jowa batho, thola o shebe.
