Kaizer Chiefs beat Platinum Stars

Posted: 13 February 2011 Time: 17:33

Kaizer Chiefs beat Platinum Stars 3-2 in a League game after coming back from 2-1 down on Sunday afternoon.

Stars’ goals were scored by a Thuso Phala brace while Chiefs’ goals were scored by a Kaizer Motaung Jnr brace and a goal by Reneilwe Letsholonyane (the PSL we need to make a decision as Siphiwe Tshabalala also got a touch).

Phala made his mark on the game very early on, picking up a clever pass from Mduduzi Nyanda before beating two Amakhosi defenders and chipping the ball past Itumeleng Khune for the opening goal in just the second minute of play.

And the speedy attacker almost doubled the hosts’ lead twice in the 11th minute, seeing two efforts in quick succession blocked by Khune and defender Dominic Isaacs.

Although Stars looked the likelier scorers, Chiefs were in fact dominating possession and territory, patiently looking for a way to pierce the home team’s rearguard.

And they were rewarded in the 27th minute with a thumping header from Kaizer Motaung Jr that leveled the scores at 1-1. Siphiwe Tshabalala was the architect of the goal, providing a fine cross from the left flank.

However, parity lasted just eight minutes, with Phala scoring his second of the day in the 35th minute – a cracking drive into the top corner of the net – to put Stars back in front at 2-1.

Chiefs had a couple of opportunities to pull level early in the second half but they had to wait until the 61st minute to finally make it 2-2. Jimmy Tau crossed from the right, Reneilwe Letsholonyane saw his effort half-saved by Kapini and Tshabalala scored with a tap-in though the ball may have crossed the line already.

Five minutes later Motaung Jr made it 3-2, putting Chiefs into the lead for the first time with a low shot after running onto a flick-on from Letsholonyane.

Stars worked hard in what remained of the game to find an equaliser, but they were unable to find a third goal. The hosts also ended the game with ten men when Solomon Mathe was dismissed in injury time for a second bookable offence.

I am beginning to suspect that the majority of musunu x1 fanatics don't understand how this works ... ok I will dumb it down a little so you understand look at the table and see who is leading the pack, and who the leaders are playing next, lena you are already forgetting that there will be games played before the one on Feb 20th but apparently this is all rocket science to you. Shame dumb chimps!!!

Damn! These things can talk. It's like they been caged for years.

This win makes the league interesting. I wish both Ajax & Downs can hang in there. There's still a lot of soccer to b played, 30 points to fight for. Teams will drop points along the way, that's for sure but the best team will eventually win it. I thought sundowns played really well last night. So they are also in with a chance.

Good luck to all the contenders & may the best of luck go to the Happy People :)

Thanks for the win boys, now coach please work on our defenders. We are conceding too many goals and it's gonna hurt us in the end.

Go and ask any coach from smallanyana teams like pie-rats or sun-doms, gavin hunt, jomo even Gorden Igesand

- what did you plan or told your players for the game against chiefs!

Answer from smallanyana team coach:

- you know playing kaizer chiefs is a motivation on its own so i didn't have say anything to my players! They are just motivated that they play chiefs!

So Makhosi amahle, my point is we must expect tough games like this one from 15 other smallanyana teams in the PSL!

we don't deserve da league da way we play. yeye, nale, tau, nahayo n' jambo must pull their socks. musons must be rested to make him hungry.

Muzi, i commented earlier on FB that Yeye, Nahayo and Jambo were out. But then Nale who i trusted to deliver was worse. I like Musona to keep on playing because it is off him that other strikers are perfoming. He is a yardstick to which they measure themselves. He is young he will mature but we must play him.
