Orlando Pirates beat Vasco da Gama

Orlando Pirates completed a 10-game unbeaten run following a 2-0 victory against Vasco da Gama at Orlando Stadium on Wednesday evening.

With the absence of Daine Klate and Dikgang Mabalane in attack, Katlego Mashego and Tlou Segolela proved to be a handful for Vasco’s defence as they kept pursuing Posnet Omony’s posts without any real opposition.

Pirates opened the scoring on 20 minutes when Mashego slotted from Segolela’s assist.

Bucs have managed to keep six clean sheets from their last seven games prior to this clash-thanks to the consistent Moeneeb Josephs, who had a rather quiet first half.

At the other end though, Omony made a mess of a header from Mbuyane in the 35th minute, which saw the Bucs striker score his side’s second goal.

Josephs’ only real test only came in the 40th minute when Bradley August unleashed what could have been a scorcher at the alert Bucs keeper.

Pirates replaced Mashego with Mongalo to partner with Mbuyane in search for more goals, but it never materialized as the game petered out in the second half.
