Kaizer Chiefs shoot down Golden Arrows

Posted: 2 February 2011 Time: 21:55

Kaizer Chiefs kept up their fine form in the Absa Premiership with a 2-1 away win over Golden Arrows at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Striker Sthembiso Ngcobo was handed a lone striker’s role in the absence of the injured Knowledge Musona and responded with two goals – his first in the League this season.

Former Amakhosi player Collins Mbesuma pulled one back for Abafana Bes’thende but the home team was unable to complete a comeback.

Siyanda Zwane was sent off in the 70th minute for a second yellow card.

The visitors started very fluently, with wide men Mandla Masango and Siphiwe Tshabalala finding plenty of space.

On nine minutes Tshabalala was put free down the right side of Arrows’ penalty area by Tinashe Nengomasha, but there was no one in a Chiefs shirt to turn home his peach of a ball across the face of the goal.

Two minutes later, with their first genuine attack of the game, Arrows sent overlapping right-back Siyanda Zwane into a shooting position and his low effort troubled Itumeleng Khune, who fumbled the ball and needed Valery Nahayo to clear.

Chiefs continued to find some joy in the wide areas, and midway through the first half Jimmy Tau cut inside from the right flank and curled a left-footed effort just wide of the far post.

A minute before the half hour mark Mthokozisi Yende floated a good cross into the box from the left, allowing Sthembiso Ngcobo to get a header on target, but it was comfortably saved by Helton da Rocha.

On the stroke of half-time Arrows created another overlapping opportunity for Zwane and his low cross flashed across the face of goal, just beyond the reach of Mbesuma.

The early stages of the second half saw the teams trade half chances in attack, and Chiefs soon made a substitution by replacing Masango with Abia Nale in the 52nd minute.

The former Arrows player had an almost immediate impact on the game, breaking free down the right and curling in a cross that da Rocha somewhat flapped at, allowing Ngcobo to head home at the back post.

And just past the hour mark Ngcobo made it 2-0, picking up a fine pass from Yende and firing a low shot into the bottom corner via the left hand of Da Rocha, who again could have done more to prevent to the goal.

The game seemed wrapped up for the Soweto side at 2-0, but former Amakhosi hero Mbesuma pulled one back in the 69th minute, finding the bottom corner with a well-placed shot after showing immense strength to brush off the attention of Nahayo.

Yet any real hopes Abafana Bes’thende had of a stunning comeback were crushed just two minutes after Mbesuma’s goal, as Zwane picked up his second booking and was shown a red card by referee Victor Gomes.

The KwaZulu-Natal team made a valiant effort to get something out of the game despite their numerical disadvantage, and Khune did have to make a couple of sharp saves from Mbesuma and Njabulo Manqana, but in the end Chiefs held out to win 2-1.

@ King and WONDER. It proves that the two of you are below the ebb morons the way you lambast Kaizer Chiefs performance. You never had time to watch your team Pierats which was playing the same time as the Mighty Chiefs.I would rather play chess that watch pierates , beacuse I would not have time to meditate and work on my intelligence.
I still maintain that you guys were born on the same day and did the same subjects which never mapped your future. Please get some life and be objective in your comments. You are still squaking about over the sale by night Teko. Get some life dudes. Khosie 4 Life

Wonder:
Do you still remember shaba’s yellow card when we were playing against ‘Microsoft fc’?.
You are now complaining about the refree because it’s not chiefs which is at the receiving end??

Anyway, is Habaz staying or Legodi is going to take over as care taker coach as reported in one of the biggest media companies in SA?

This masango laaitie plays a whole lot of Kak we must loan him to PiRats I understand he works hard in training but our coach sometimes makes us look bad we got better players. As for our coach deciding to play Lewis alone upfront knowing very well he is still a youngster while arrows were a man down it nearly cost us three points thanks to Kings Finest once again I guess there is no debate on who is the best keeper in the country as we speak. Anyway thanks Makhosi for applying even more pressure to our neighbouring camp and for also ensuring that we stay ahead of our enemy camp.

bring your friends close but your enemies even closer, thats the reasoning behind watching Chiefs games nothing else, they play boring football.

..........................
Kingpazee:
Which team is playing a boring football between ‘Count attack’ fc aka DooooMmm! DooooMmm! Fc and Kazizer Chiefs?
Remember that it is very difficult to score against a team which is playing a count attack football, and it’s worse if they can score first because they are going to frustrate you With their DooooMmm! DooooMmm!.
Truth be told, piekuku has got only two quality players; Mayambela and Chansa, the rest, jrrrrrrrr! Bunch of cows with Mahamutsa leading the Moooo! Show.

Well done to the boys and good luck against Swai Swai. Lets work on shutting the back door, we conceding lots of goals lately. One thing I give to Rat-Rats is that they went on for 10 games without a loose. Which shows that they are seriously determined to fight for No.1 position.
Still on this, remember their trophy drought ended in 2010, and now they went 10 games without defeat...for me rats-rats 's limit is 10, from now on they will start dropping points and The Khosi ones will pave through the TOP.

Referee to the rescue again, yoh, this team mara!

Anyway, they won't afford to bribe them for all the games, soon the wheels will come off!

Wonder my friend, dont lower your standard because you want to accomodate King. You have been a best blogger for a while and now that you want to match your friends you are slipping to their level?

I didnt expect it from you to just speculate like that. Baseless info that if you are called to witness you cant prove. If it was undeserving yellow card, did Chiefs knew that Zwane will commit the second or the first fouls for him to be sent off, then they paid the ref? Come on my friend, find something to hit on, not this one... Or maybe is not Wonder that I know, they are using your username.

Yes, now you get my point, the very same game where Khanyesa’s dive resulted into a set piece.
The refree wasn’t supposed to give a set piece in the first place. So don’t talk about the handball.
Last week MU was given a penalty which was not supposed to be given.
Your pathetic team was playing yesterday Wonder, I don’t know why you decided to watch KC game.
