Kermit Erasmus nets the winner against Mamelodi Sundowns

Posted: 22 January 2011 Time: 22:23

SuperSport United beat Mamelodi Sundowns 1-0 at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday night to claim the three points and the Tshwane Derby bragging rights.

SuperSport started well when Anthony Laffor hit a powerful shot from outside the box in the second minute, but was denied by the crossbar with Wayne Sandilands well-beaten.

Sundowns won a free kick in the 11th minute and Katlego Mphela blasted it against Rowen Fernandez. It was game on at this stage.

The reigning PSL champions continued to dominate, though and in the 33rd minute missed a great chance to draw first blood. Kermit Erasmus was picked with a pass on the right and he hit a low cross, which Sandilands got down to push away but the ball fell to Letladi Madubanya, whose shot crashed against the upright.

The score was 0-0 at the interval, but it was clear Matsatsantsa were very much the better side.

Back for the second half and Erasmus shrugged off the attention of Siyanda Xulu in the 57th minute and the nippy striker laid on the pass for Laffor, who was wide on the right, but the Liberian’s attempt was saved by Sandilands, who at this stage was standing between SuperSport and victory.

Two minutes later Erasmus sent in a cross from the right and Mario Booysen flicked it on with a header and Sandilands again pushed it away, but this time it fell on Morgan Gould’s path, but the Matsatsantsa skipper failed to capitaliuse when his left footed shot was too weak and came off a Sundowns player.

Antonio Lopez Habas was restless on the touchline and decided to take off Siyabonga Ngubane and brought in Papi Zothwane in the 64th minute, but nonetheless SuperSport still looked the more likely to score.

Madubanya missed a great chance in the 65th minute when one-on-one with Sandilands he shot straight at the keeper.

However, SuperSport had the last laugh. Laffor hit the post after some good work by Madubanya in the box and the ball fell kindly to Erasmus who hit it into an open net in the 84th minute to steal it at the death for Gavin Hunt.

they say Sun-doms got quality and stars. But every time I look in their line up I see all these unknown, inexperience players such as sanderlands, mongomeni, xulu, ngubane, the cow called boooooth and the two zim players then i ask myself where is the quality and experience here.

Makhanya, Trott and Habas will not succeed in their quest to destroy Downs. The Sky is The Limit!

After our loss to FSS stars, I told the stupid bloggers that, this is the team that is going to win the league, They said Kaizer Chiefs will win the league in my wet dreams.
Who is going to win the league in his wet dreams now?
I just want to ask Luvhengu Mungumeni these two questions:
1. Is this how you bounce back?
2. Who wheels are coming off sooner than expected?

I am still behind my team . Sundowns bt have my concerns:
1. Why was . Sandilands voted man of the match izolo?because his handling of the ball was pathetic most of the time especially crosses?
2. Sundowns has a goalkeeper coach what is he paid to do?
3. Supersport goal: . Overated Xulu had the opportunity to clear that ball first since he was the last man bt he opted to do funny stuff and was dispossesed in the process
4. Does Sundowns have a style of play? Because what i see is a bunch of headless chicken who run like headless chicken for 90 minutes
5. Players said they wanted Habashwe as a coach since he was the one doing the job during Hristo tenure bt i for one dont think so based on how we play this season compared to last season.
6. Ngubane ahead of Zothwane? Oh my God.
7. Can dis ball boy turned coach read the game well?
8. Now that we have been overtaken what is his recovery plan if any?
9. What is Motsepe's view on the sudden turn of events?
10. Crying over spilt milk wont help but was it necessary to loan Mmotong? Who made this decision ball boy or the forever confused management( kenneth makhanya and loskop moloto)?
I pause.....

According to me, these people you are talking about have already achieved their goal of destroying Sundowns and promising young stars in South Africa.
Sundowns is dead . How can you fire the coach like Hritoric? Trott and his crew succeeded with flying colors to destroy Bafana ba stlaela. It’s now two seasons without a major trophy in Driekop.

Habas must stop hating Zothwane and Moriri. I thought he ll use them against SSU but he did the opposite.

Sundowns lacked a proper game plan. They did nothing to neutrilise Laffor who happens to be a problem against Sundowns all the time.

The middle was not creative and there was no supply for Nyasha n Mphela.

The decision to choose inexpiriencd over expirience players exposed Habas lack of expierince himself.

Hunt is going straight up now and he inconsistency of VV,Habas and Kroll is going to hand over the League title once again to Gavin Hunt, his team is beggining to jell and the average age and expirince is his advantage.

The league is between SSU and Pirates.

What mandate has Patrice Motsepe given to Trott and Makhanya i wonder, these parenial underachievers are useless. Habas is just a symptom of what is wrong in that team!

I for one was never convinced about Habas. that guy is such a joke. how can you collect four points out of a possible 15, and still expect to win the league? No no no, this guy keeps on fielding his Zim clowns, bo Method, and Keeps fielding those amateurs like Ngumane and Mtizwa, while he keeps experienced players like Zothwane on the bench. we dont need kak in our team, Habas, no no no, what i witnessed in PLK was kak, complete shit. the guys play without any plan, nothing whatsoever. we need tshilo there,we need Zothwane. Who was that number 20 guy, what was he doing in there? what was Ngubane doing there? Why do you keep fielding this fool, Mungomweni? The coach must simply go, we need a good new coach, not this habas kak. Well done to Sandilands and Xulu. I swear masandawana, we are going to finish this season at number 5. Mark my words

To all Masandawana!! Important notes

- Makhanya and Trott Moloto are the source of all our problems, they are the one that hired the physical Trainer Habas to be our coach
- Motsepe promised us that Sundowns will bounce back and he assured us that it will be his responsibility
- Motsepe Must just hire a competent management to lead our team, Makhanya and Trott are just Chawing his money and dont care about the team
- Sundowns have been doing well under the Management of Tatasha, everything was run professionally, even when it was Afzal Khan, Everything was run proff exept the Toreallba signature Saga
- What is happening in the pitch is as a result of confused and incompetent management e.g How do u hire a physical trainer and make him a coach
- Way foward, We need a competitive management, The current management must be fired and replaced with more sober and strategically empowered people! full stop

I agree wit all sandawanas. Habas must go. We need a new good coach.

Good day, good people...jah neh, what a disgrace from our team...I don't even know where to start...I'm not a type who likes to put blame on the coaches or the refs but it looks like our coach is a coward when it comes to tactics...when we played Chiefs after the break we had a very defensive approach and that's one of the reasons why we have struggling in scoring goals (the game against Maritzburg is an exception)....our team has no shape, no balance and the back four is a shame if not a disgrace....anyways my faith is thin on our coach but hey it's part of the game - realistically speaking, I don't see us taking the league
