Ajax Cape Town beat Kaizer Chiefs 1-0 at the Cape Town Stadium thanks to Brent Carelse's second half penalty.

It was a thrilling 90 minutes, Absa Premiership football at its very best.

In front of a thunderous crowd, the game got off to a breath-taking start, with the atmosphere in the stands causing the players to play at an unbelievable speed.

Ajax had two good early chances, but Granwald Scott’s application on a header was poor when he was set up by Sameehg Doutie with only a minute gone.

And then Khama Billiat just failed to chip Itumleng Khune, who did well to get a touch on the ball, making up for his initial error – a poor clearance straight to the Ajax attacker.

Chiefs’ first real chance came in the 14th minute when some poor defending let Knowledge Musona in, but he dragged his shot just wide from out on the right.

The game remained tight, and fast, with Ajax looking to catch AmaKhosi on the break, but the Cape side failed to master the Chiefs off-side trap.

The Soweto side looked set to take a 40th minute lead, but they did not reckon on Ajax keeper Hans Vonk, who made a stop that could be a contender for save of the season as he dived full length to deny Kaizer Motaung Junior.

Ajax took the lead eight minutes after the restart, courtesy of the penalty spot, where Brent Carelse bravely put the ball past Khune.

The penalty came after Serero burst goal-wards, showing good body strength to draw Tinashe Nengomasha into the foul.

AmaKhosi tried to hit back through Motaung, but he sent a shot just wide, while for Ajax, Serero was nicely set up by George Maluleka in the 72nd minute, but shot over.

There was relentless pressure from AmaKhosi late on, but some poor finishing, one culprit being Sthembiso Ncgobo, and some fine defending saw the Cape side through ton the final whistle, the young Urban Warriors showing great character to stand firm against a quality AmaKhosi unit.

Ajax 1 - Chimpanzes 0. Or the score is visa versa? Can anyone help me here by refreshing my mind? If the Zoo Chiefs have lost then is this how they are going to clinch the championship? I doubt especially with how the ref helped them as usual anyway by dis allowing a clear clear clear penalty against them...eish these refs...I suspect Bobby has done his thing.

I said it this week that it's gonna be a shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh weekend and it's exactly that. The biggest team continues to lose against the smallest teams...by the way where exactly do they get this status of being the biggest team since they always get the beating of small teams??

We are nt worried about Chips. They will collapse like they normally do said Sundowns defender Luvengo Mungomeni. He further went on to say Kaizerbels wheels will come off sooner than expected and guess what? He was called names and little did they know he was telling the truth. I-Ajax ivele yay'iphuzel'umsopho. Someone had to stop them because their coach was talking too much. Back to the drawing board for the best team in 'Africa'. We'll beatt the owner until the dog comes out said Foppe De Haan.

That's the only game you will win in a season and the question is...can winning against two team win you a league? Obviously you can beat them both rounds which means you'd have got 12 points so can that 12 points be enough? No...get your facts right dude...you can't win the league by beating Bucs and Downs only.

vv and and his "best" team in mzansi were simply found wanting almost in all departments last night...he had the whole 1st to try and counter the warriors game plan cause clearly his was not working...and he failed miserably. yet some stupid fans say he's the special one. talk about uselessness. i guess he was surprised the whole 90 min and couldn't think...or maybe the "best" team doesn't have enough arsenal in their ranks...
