Orlando Pirates beat Moroka Swallows

Posted: 18 December 2010 Time: 17:35

Orlando Pirates recorded a 2-0 win over Soweto rivals Moroka Swallows at the Dobsonville Stadium on Saturday to move into second place on the log.

Goals from Ezenwa Otorogu and Tlou Segolela saw the Buccaneers pick up a third successive League win and close to within six points of leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.

The Birds, in contrast, are still without a win from 11 League matches and have now suffered their first defeat under the tenure of new coach Gordon Igesund.

Both teams struggled to create scoring chances in the first half. Teko Modise, back in the Pirates line-up in place of the suspended Daine Klate, was perhaps the liveliest player on the pitch and grew into the game after a somewhat erratic start.

On 29 minutes Ezenwa Otorogu had an opening in the Swallows penalty area but he was unable to get an effort away under pressure from Roger Da Costa and Greg Etafia.

Just under ten minutes later Modise almost got through the defence after an impish chip into space from Andile Jali, but the midfielder was unable to get a shot away.

But on 40 minutes the breakthrough finally came for the visitors. A poor back-header from Roger Da Costa fell invitingly for Otorogu and the Nigerian steered home a well-placed left-footed shot to put Bucs 1-0 up.

There was further drama at the end of the first half as Vincent Kobola brought down Happy Jele in the box and gave away a penalty. Lucky Lekgwathi took on the responsibility but blasted his spot kick over the bar.

Swallows came out with renewed vigour in the second half but they missed out on a great scoring opportunity in the 53rd minute. Young striker S’celo Zuma went one-on-one with goalkeeper Moeneeb Josephs but ‘Slimkat’ made a great save.

Ten minutes later a terrific Siyabonga Nomvete strike had the beating of the ‘keeper but rebounded off the underside of the crossbar.

On 67 minutes Pirates killed off the game. Modise picked out Segolela with a superb pass and the winger showed great composure to control the ball and fire a low shot to Etafia’s right that put the Buccaneers 2-0 up.

There were further chances at both ends in the remaining minutes, particularly for Pirates, for whom the unfortunate Ndumiso Mabena missed a virtual open goal.

To King Teko:
Form is temporary but class is permanent. You are a Genious boy. You get injured you request yourself to be substituted, Mbuyane got injured when we were winning and he wanted to force himself back in the game. What did you do to Krol, I have never seen him so angry, when you missed the square he stood up like he have seen the enemy shouting at you when the captain who was not supposed to be there in the line-up at first place missed the penalty the coach consoled and encourage him. Keep your head high boy and continue working hard and prove nay-sayers wrong, Pirates and the country needs your skills, whic are rare this days.

To the coach Krol,
On Wednesday the only subs needed is for Klate to come in for Malokase, and Modise drift inside to be a second striker, Chansa coming in for suspended Jali. Please no Mbuyane this time, I admit that he is a hard worker but we need a different approach. For the first time in 2 and half years your bench looked ver good. Your subs were very good bar the coming in of Ndumiso Second Division Mabena, I don't know, you had Mosowoya in a bench why bring on Mabena who is clearly lost in PSL.

To our Captain: I agree with Totalfootball comments-experience count but maybe the knees are starting to crumble. The only tackle you made was gainst Leornad, you can't mark anymore, I still believe that Makonese is far better than you while Johannes have more techniques and timming than you. Give other players a chance and do sensible thing and retire and if you still want to be at Pirates ship be second assistant. I read on Kick-off Magazine when you were threating everyone after you were dropped in a derby but you have to admit it you are old.

Segolela ntwana please be more serious we have been calling for you to start this is your chance to cement a permanent place in the first line-up in the absent of the aging of terminator. Sometimes you over-do things be more serious.

Lastly to Kick-off, on Thursday you reported that Mahamutsa was dropped for this game and I was worried, the boy sometimes makes mistakes but he bring stability to the defence he just needs to play more with Johannes and they'll form a good partnership until we bring in Mabizela , Gould or Sangweni next season. Please make sure that your reporting is precise next time as you nearly gave me a heart attack.

To happy people, happy Christmas, happy new year and happy position 2 going into new year, we definitely need 3 points against P/Stars in a new year.

Mr. Editor

Can you please ask Tlou what does his celebration mean. He he he he he.

Guys it is scary for Swallows, second round all the team wants to win, it will be tough for the Dube birds to bounce back. I thought my team yesterday will spare the Dube birds of three points.

Krol, do you see the benefits of not favouring. Give Teko more game time on the position that is played by Mbuyane, shift your boy Mbuyane to the wing and you'll see the benefit.

King, Tivani, Mopheme, Motlokoa, Juan Pablo, The Ghost, I hate Chiefs Fans (Gays) and all other Piartes supporters, who wrote off the Navigator? It is tme to celebrate his return. But I am worried by Krol he can keep him out again for the next 5 games. Remember he played well first against Santos in MTN 8 our first game and then he was relegated to the bench for 3 games until we complain. He played well when coming in against Ajax and again he was relegated back to the stand for 5 games, he got a rum against Maritzburg in the leauge he played very well and again he was relegated to the stand for 4 games, now he is back I am afraid that we will see him mid February again after 5 games. The boy is working hard he just want to play. I liked his answers in an interview after the game not critising anyone but admitting that his form was down and we had quick wingers and new approaches which made it difficult for him to break through but if you read your captain comments in Kickoff magazine about being dropped in the derby it is embarassing. Tell me is Mabena, Malokase, Manyisa better than Modise, honestly?
