Mushekwi the hero for Downs

Posted: 17 December 2010 Time: 22:12

Nyasha Mushekwi helped Mamelodi Sundowns rack up another victory, overcoming stiff opposition from Ajax Cape Town at the Athlone Stadium on Friday night to run out 1-0 victors.

The first 10 minutes saw Downs enjoying territorial advantage, but with little threat to the goal of Hans Vonk.

But Vonk could do nothing about Nyasha Mushekwi's header in the 61st minute, from a corner kick.

It was certainly Ajax who had the better of the early chances, as Terror Fanteni had a 10th minute blocked by Wayne Sandilands and then Thulani Hlatshwayo headed straight at the former Platinum Stars keeper.

A rash tackle by Fanteni on Mathew Booth after 30 minutes put the Cape side on the back foot as he was sent for an early shower.

But even though Downs began to play with more purpose, they never really came close to breaking the deadlock in the closing minutes of the first half.

The Cape Town team started the second half with purpose, both Thulani Serero and Sameehg Doutie having a couple of half chances.

Sandilands then kept the visitors in the lead, thanks to a superb save from close range after Khama Billiat had connected with Lebo Manyama’s cross.

Closing action was intriguing as Ajax continued to give their all in search of a goal, the 10 men running themselves into the ground.

c'mon SA teams, de brazillians need some competition.. Dont wori we'll be battling tp mazembe and your al-ahly of dis world soon

you getting pompous now, like the K Cabbage fans, sundowns has never done well even against teams from swaziland, if my memory serves me well, they have a phobia like chimps of playing in Africa, and as far as we know the league is a long journey even the talkative VV can still win it!

A good start by the house of style and Gold however i will not read much into this good start because Sundowns has a tendency of loosing concetration in the 2nd round.

I will have to wait and see but i see Kroll winning it without our support.

Sundowns and its supporters are living in the world of reality whilst some mickey mouse teams and their ' harvesters' are living in the world of ' Fantasy'. It's such a shame.

If the word 'fair play' was practically applicable in soccer, all the other PSL would instruct Siem and Happy Ntshingila to hand the trophy to Sundowns. No team will catch us even in their wildest dreams.

If Pirates win today, there will be 6 points difference between The House of style n Gold and The GALAXI of stars.

6 points difference is not a safer zone, considering the fact that Sundowns still need to play the average Kaizerbels and their records are not that good against this average team.

Whats going to determine the winner of this marathon is the TRANSFER window in January, Sundowns seem to be happy with their sqaud while OP will bolster its defence by roping in OJ. We might see Vilakazi returning home and Lerato Chabangu might sign for the average Kaizerbels together with Bernard Parker.

watch the space, Teko might join Sundowns or Chiefs while Khune is also set to join Sundowns.

Ok..ok!..we need something new and refreshing..i wonder why kickoff is so sleepy over this festive season? we need something different other than crap staff from kloorkak, that is why news don't sell when you get teams like sunkops on the headlines!...my team MIGHTY AMAKHOSI is heading to polokwane today but nothing is being said about it!..but anyway we heading to polokwane to make new policy, and that will be a league winning policy..

Seeing that kick off writes nothing abt that game Bidvest is going to win, question is why dnt you write seeing that the very same kick off you are busy criticising, has afforded a platform to express yourself? Ungazosdina la. Bitter kaizer fish and shit supporter. Go hang. You will hibernate again on the 08/01/2010 like other harvesters. It is an open secret that chips n masala marketing department, kick off is bitter that abafana baka-Motsepe bathel'induku strong. One thing kaizerbels supporters have in common: UMONA. Hey ninomona. tomato sos: you have really improved and am so impressed. Correction from a bitter cabbage harvester with 3 degrees is accepted. Kaizerbels and its supporters suffer from early ejaculation which is why you are so obsessed with cups. Try the league. You'll win it the day Kaizer jnr divorces Jostaline.

I'm happy with da win, but i still think we could have played better against a 10 men team. My problem with habas is his starting 11. Booth is battling with pace. Playing him against a speedy ajax is to me not wise. Why zothwane is not playing still buffles me. But 3 points is better than playing good and get nothing
@ sweyts
Couldn't agree withu more. We got da points but it was not preety. I just hope by da tym we play good futball we will still b wining. I miss stoichkov though

@tk I hear u. But he can't b a bad coach bcoz of Booth only. As for Zothwane da coach knows what he want from his playaz. As u c we don't have subs @ Downs but SUPA SUBS

With the first third of the season completed now is a good time to comment on the first 10 games of the championship. Sundowns is definitely the team to beat. Ajax Cape Town play the most attractive football. Knowledge Musona is the star player with Thulani Serero a very close second. I look forward to the second third of the championship, my money is on Supersport United to collect the most points, their key players are returning from injury but they need to sort out the goalkeeping department. Will comment again after 20 games are completed. Believe me, the log will read a different story to the first 10 games. I told you so............
