Mushekwi the hero for Downs

Posted: 17 December 2010 Time: 22:12

Nyasha Mushekwi helped Mamelodi Sundowns rack up another victory, overcoming stiff opposition from Ajax Cape Town at the Athlone Stadium on Friday night to run out 1-0 victors.

The first 10 minutes saw Downs enjoying territorial advantage, but with little threat to the goal of Hans Vonk.

But Vonk could do nothing about Nyasha Mushekwi's header in the 61st minute, from a corner kick.

It was certainly Ajax who had the better of the early chances, as Terror Fanteni had a 10th minute blocked by Wayne Sandilands and then Thulani Hlatshwayo headed straight at the former Platinum Stars keeper.

A rash tackle by Fanteni on Mathew Booth after 30 minutes put the Cape side on the back foot as he was sent for an early shower.

But even though Downs began to play with more purpose, they never really came close to breaking the deadlock in the closing minutes of the first half.

The Cape Town team started the second half with purpose, both Thulani Serero and Sameehg Doutie having a couple of half chances.

Sandilands then kept the visitors in the lead, thanks to a superb save from close range after Khama Billiat had connected with Lebo Manyama’s cross.

Closing action was intriguing as Ajax continued to give their all in search of a goal, the 10 men running themselves into the ground.

Dr Mo: what you are saying about Ace Chabangu isnt funny in case you think it is. It is clear the guy has a serious problem because he even turned down an opportunity to train with Swallows. People like you who have a big mouth can help the guy instead of pulling him down especially considering that you are a doctor.

Antonio Habas will make history by becoming the first foreign coach to win the league in his first season. I'm sure once he achieves that, Sundowns will then turn on the style and play like Barcalona.

7 points clear, well one should be happy. But the fact remains Booth is the weakest link. would hate to see him on the pitch when we playing chiefs.

7 points clear from ajax
9 points clear from pirates

By the end of the weekend it can easily be 12 and 13 points clear respectively.
I'm tempted to call sundown Champions Elect

I wonder how will bucs n sundowns be if they had good coaches,i give credit to players of both this teams for a job wel done thus far.

I know some gays will insult n oppose but both habas n kruel play boring football which is not normal for both teams but players hav tried their best to get points nonetheless so big up to players for both teams respectively n yestaday's game bears testimony to what am sayin.

While ads r collecting points some r celebrating for the whole yr for winning telkom against krol,

@mandla sandawana will be lucky walking away with three points until the end of the season while you are sitting in front of your computer sobing. It was an away game and the three pionts were important while Sundowns is not playing their known brand but it is winning unlike some other mickey mouse team who can't win playing mickey mouse football. What will happen when we start playing our known brand istayela football???

As for Booth he is a liability he was lucky to stay on the pitch last nite and Nyandoro as well they need a rest.
