Kaizer Chiefs slump to Santos defeat

Posted: 10 November 2010 Time: 21:30

Kaizer Chiefs’ unbeaten record in the Absa Premiership came to a surprise end at the Rand Stadium on Wednesday evening as they lost 1-0 to Santos.

The People’s Team deployed a conservative approach for much of the match, but stole the points on with a late goal from Sekou Camara.

The first half produced little in the way of goalmouth action or scoring chances, though Chiefs came closest to breaking the deadlock when Siphiwe Tshabalala rattled the crossbar with a 20-metre free-kick in the 15th minute.

Reneilwe Letsholonyane was the main orchestrator in midfield for Chiefs and wasn’t afraid to try his luck with long-range shots, such as in the 35th minute when he fired a low, left-footed effort just wide.

As the first half began to wind down, Santos slowly began to come to life, though the most they could offer in attack was a Tyren Arendse shot that flashed wide of Itumeleng Khune’s left-hand upright.

In the second half Santos upped their game significantly, looking a lot more composed and comfortable.

Yet it was still Chiefs who were creating the better opportunities and Letsholonyane twice came close with long-range shots, stinging the palms of Tshepo Motsoeneng in the 76th minute and firing a fierce effort just wide less than 60 seconds later.

On 85 minutes a Santos counter-attack produced the best scoring chance of the game, but Graham King fired wide of the target with only Khune to beat, though the keeper deserved credit for rushing off his line to put the midfielder under pressure.

Yet if Santos thought their time to win the game had passed, they were wrong. Just two minutes later a corner-kick routine saw Musa Otieno head back across the penalty area from the far post and, after Chiefs had failed to clear the ball, Camara pounced to score the winning goal with a powerful header.

starting winning the league and talk about being SA biggest team, in the main time your just a well folloed team, the league is what matters not the cup. Quality teams are determined by league not cups. the big team in SA is downs followed by SSu and then the likes of Cabbage and Pie- City like it or not, look around the world for big teamsn and also look at how many Championship(league) n cup.

In cup games u can win the games on penalties until u win the final and u will get the championship.
so start winning the league and stop bragging about cups, but i know it will be difficult s penallties are not part of the league. its Five years now so wait for another 7 years.

im running out of ink

the sky ka bo yellow

Point of correction chiefs dont shy away from completing in the Champios league..... only 2 teams qualify .... The winner and the runner up.... so wen last did chiefs finish number 2 or 1 after they have being burnd from the Competion tsa CAF?...... and wonder you sound like a person who understand football you are just like Jimmy TAu he said and i qoute " the league is important" thats a chiefs player saying that not me .. so chiefs fans winning cups aint something you can go AROUND making noise about The Championship is the ultimate goal.... and winning the Champions League is everybody dream( Pirates has done that so far) and soon sundowns will do it......chiefs continue to win your telkom which in 3 years from nw it will be CEll C cup we dont mind ... as for pirates and sundowns we will try to stop supersport domination over S.A teams and Domination of Al Ahly over / T.P mazembe over Africa ... ur chairman has got vission watch out

Tell us your position after the last Game of the League... becouse we all know you dont knw the future, so just zip your lips and enjoy the games ......And hope Pirates continue to dominate you .... You talk too much...... The Santos Keeper told you yesterday but you wer busy harasing him..... Krol told you he know your weakness during the MTN8.... by the way Editor can you ask V.V ore did he go to Krol and ask about that weakness?

MR. V.V. Please make Nale a Substitute, if he plays Shabba cannot be able to play and He(Nale) has a poor last touch even if he can make good passes. Please rest him and put two strikers to start a game.
