Kaizer Chiefs slump to Santos defeat

Posted: 10 November 2010 Time: 21:30

Kaizer Chiefs’ unbeaten record in the Absa Premiership came to a surprise end at the Rand Stadium on Wednesday evening as they lost 1-0 to Santos.

The People’s Team deployed a conservative approach for much of the match, but stole the points on with a late goal from Sekou Camara.

The first half produced little in the way of goalmouth action or scoring chances, though Chiefs came closest to breaking the deadlock when Siphiwe Tshabalala rattled the crossbar with a 20-metre free-kick in the 15th minute.

Reneilwe Letsholonyane was the main orchestrator in midfield for Chiefs and wasn’t afraid to try his luck with long-range shots, such as in the 35th minute when he fired a low, left-footed effort just wide.

As the first half began to wind down, Santos slowly began to come to life, though the most they could offer in attack was a Tyren Arendse shot that flashed wide of Itumeleng Khune’s left-hand upright.

In the second half Santos upped their game significantly, looking a lot more composed and comfortable.

Yet it was still Chiefs who were creating the better opportunities and Letsholonyane twice came close with long-range shots, stinging the palms of Tshepo Motsoeneng in the 76th minute and firing a fierce effort just wide less than 60 seconds later.

On 85 minutes a Santos counter-attack produced the best scoring chance of the game, but Graham King fired wide of the target with only Khune to beat, though the keeper deserved credit for rushing off his line to put the midfielder under pressure.

Yet if Santos thought their time to win the game had passed, they were wrong. Just two minutes later a corner-kick routine saw Musa Otieno head back across the penalty area from the far post and, after Chiefs had failed to clear the ball, Camara pounced to score the winning goal with a powerful header.

Good one coach.

I hear The Mugabeans are planning to throw away 2nyts game, to avoid suffering their 1st loss against The Mighty Bucs, they rather opt for losing Two games in a row than suffering a 1st defeat against The MIGHTY BUCS.

So those rumors where right, Pathetic. So The Mugabeans will rather loss 2 games in a row, heheheheheh

The Santos keeper said it last week already that this is a weak team, no amount of insults will prove him wrong, only the results on the field which we all by now know.

Cheats is weak and lacks quality, period!

Why is Kickoff saying; "Kaizer Chiefs’ unbeaten record in the Absa Premiership came to a surprise end at the Rand Stadium on Wednesday evening as they lost 1-0 to Santos." This is an insult to Santos. Stats proves that Chiefs have never beaten Santos in Gauteng for the past 3 seasons & again stats proves that in most cases whem Chiefs beat poor Santos is when there are dubious decicions from the officials.

Well....that wasn’t convincing at all and if we continue with that performance then we’re in BIG trouble on Saturday.
I just hope my boys can regroup and stay focus ,keep your chins up . It’s not the end of the road ,we still have enough time to face the championship and the Telkom Knockout .

Well done Santos , you deserves the 3 points. We had our chances and we lack that killer instinct upfront.

It’s amazing to read comments from aboWonder in fact Sunflops fans saying Chiefs is a weakest team in the PSL . This is real funny . I mean Sunflops haven’t won a single trophy in the last 3 yrs but they keep saying we’re weak. They’re like a teabag inside the cup....they don’t last that long

Telkom Charity Cup they were the knockout early , MTN8 they were the 1st to be knocked out , Telkom again they were 1st to be kicked out and now you come and say we’re the weakest team in PSL he he he he he he he cum’on guys

However I guess common sense is not common to everybody

Pee Rats fans, cum on guys : do you really think we’re the weakest team . if that’s what you guys think how come the weakest team is above you on the PSL table ? Why can’t you stand your ground and prove to us that you’re the strongest team , come Saturday show me what you’ve got ! bring it on brother

To all the Pee Rats fans: Just promise me one thing , just one thing.....that after 90mins you’ll log on to KO website and post your comments about the result of this derby

That’s all I’m asking from you guys , is that possible guys ?
i hate chiefs fans (gays), SABELO, Shakirah, KidKudu7, j747, Tivani and KING ....

DiZimba Chips fans why do you always brag about being on top of Pirates on the log table.? Do you understand the tactics of running a marathon.? When will the league be won.? The league is not won by the pacesetters but by the smart teams like the Mighty Buccaneers who knows when to accelerate in a league race.

Any coach around the world will tell you that a league is more important than cup competitions. that fact that we're out of the telkom doesn't mean that you guys will win it. our team has bigger goals to attend to. we don't shy away from playing in africa because we want to be the best unlike your team that thinks money is everything. they don't want to pay transfer fees, and they don't want to pay their travel fees into africa. shame! i really feel sorry for you guys.
ON WHICH IS CHIEFS THE BEST IN AFRICA IF THEY'RE ARE SCARED TO EVEN TAKE PART IN THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE?

Sbali, maybe its the measure we both use to determine quality from quantity that is the problem. winning a 4 match tournament like Telkom, MTN8 or Nedbank means nothing to me, how you perfome in the championship is the real test of whether you are quality or quantity.

You can win all those cups, that means nothing unless you win the league. i use international standards to measure, you using "Chiefs standards ", tht is where i think the difference is.

He he he he...you’re making sense my outie except that you lost it when you started mentioning this line (smart teams like the Mighty Buccaneers who knows when to accelerate in a league race) then you just messed up your comments.

sizwe : 2010-11-11 08:49
you have raised good points about Chiefs , somewhere ,somehow I agree with you my outie, however you must remember that Football is business and to be quite frank with you it’s all about money. To tell you the truth money is everything my outie. Bear in mind that you have spent millions of rand for nothing buying cows, donkeys e.g Cale 6 months ago and it’s disappointing to see that your team want to including him & Ferreira + R6 million in the deal of Anthony Laffor. That says a lot about your leadership and football brains in your team .

Wonder: 2010-11-11 08:55
Sbali sami : it doesn’t what measurement you’re using to determine quality and quantity but I honestly think my team rocks. If quantity can brings you trophies then I guess my team should stick to quantity forever . On your side sbali sami if quality is what’s been happening for the past 3 yrs in your team(Sunflops) then “No thanks” . You have quality but you’re struggling on and off the field.. he he he he he . Hayi cha sbali sami hlala ne-quality yakho, it’s useless mos.....umsangano lona sbali wami....uyayazi impuqu-mpuqu yiyo ke leyo.
