Katlego Mphela wins it for Sundowns

Posted: 22 September 2010 Time: 21:48

Mamelodi Sundowns continued their impressive start to the season with a 1-0 win over Santos on Wednesday night.

The Tshwane side were in control throughout the game against a Santos’ side whose priority much of the match was not to concede – they did not show too much attacking ambition in the first half especially.

They did have an early chance, but Sekou Camara was unable to profit from an Erwin Isaacs cross due to an untidy bit of control.

But Sundowns also had their opportunities early on as Tshepo Motsoeneng was forced to tip efforts from Katlego Mphela and Mathew Pattison over the bar.

Following that early flurry there was not much action as the Peoples’ Team remained solid in defence and frustrated all of Sundowns’ attacking forays.

But just before the break the Brazilians finally broke through when Katlego Mphela unleashed a grass-cutter from the edge of the area after creating space for himself.

Santos failed to really take the game to Sundowns after the break, despite needing to equalise.

As the game moved into the last 15 minutes it was Sundowns who had the better chances to score as Surprise Moriri and Mphela dragged efforts wide, while Franklin Cale was unable to score with only Motsoeneng to beat from close range, the keeper making a good save.

Santos ended the game with 10 men after Buitemelo Mafoko received a second booking.

"Pattison Wins Yet Another Man Of The Match"

Maybe that settles the matter in as far as that debate about Pattison is concerned, the boy is a gem and you need to watch the game analytically to appreciate this guy. he looks to be doing simple stuff, but if you analyse the match closely, you will realise just how much this guy contribute to the team!

Congrats Downs. A win is simply a win and three points is what we playing for. Well done boys. I’m glad to see you back Ginger. Down really need you to connect those passes and attacking moves. You are the best ntwana.

However, let’s not misquote Bobby, the only national team he was referring to can only be Bafana Bafana and we all know who BB is and what they have achieved. So, let’s be cool and enjoy this long journey.

As we speak, the national team is missing out on the MTN8.

Guys, did you hear that Siyanda "Future Bafana Captain" Xulu is off to yet another stylish club (Arsenal) for a trial? apparently, only the change in admin at Barca cost him a place there, watch the space!

Guardiola and Wenger value this youngster, yet Pitso is busy with 29 year old Sangweni? nxxxx

Wonder: . You are right . Arsene Wenger values the young man. There's no way he'll get there and the coach isn't expecting him like it happened with grand pa Nengomasha in qatar. Apparently, Bobby''. Digger' spoke to a fan who introduced himself as the club president. Talk abt the most professional team in SA.

We had an interesting conversation until they started commenting and comparing players.

I heard from a reliable source that Mambush Mudau and Manzini(fisrt year law student at Unisa for 4 years now) where fighting about who was going to travel with Xulu, just to get Cesc Fabregas signature.

I wish Xulu all the best and may God bless his wishes. Pisto is getting exposed everyday.
