Maritzburg and Chiefs draw

Posted: 8 September 2010 Time: 22:36

Maritzburg United and Kaizer Chiefs drew 1-1 in a League match on Wednesday.

The goals were scored by Knowledge Musona for Chiefs and Rudolph Bester for United

The Amakhosi’s free-flowing style of play certainly asked a few questions of the home team’s defence early on, especially down the right flank where Chiefs’ Jimmy Tau and Mandla Masango combined to orchestrate a few probing raids.

Chiefs’ striker Knowledge Musona got onto the end of a Tau cross in the eighth minute but the Zimbabwean was unable to generate enough power with his header to trouble Shu-Aib Walters in United’s goals.

A minute later Musona, Masango and Siphiwe Tshabalala worked in tandem to produce a move that progressed into United’s danger area but Tshabalala sent his attempt high over the crossbar.

Masango had only Walters to beat in the 17th minute. Instead he directed a low drive at the keeper’s body.

Chiefs’ relentless pressure eventually took its toll near the half-hour mark when Musona was able to divert Tau’s strike on goal beyond a flat-footed Walters.

The visitors were not prepared to sit back on their small advantage and pressed for more openings. Tshabalala surged powerfully into the visitor’s penalty area a short while later and unleashed a scorching drive which Walters kept out with the help of David Booysens, who was positioned on the goal line.

Five minutes from the interval, Chiefs had another attempt cleared off the line. Masango drilled an effort which Walters parried into the path of lanky midfielder Mthokozisi Yende who responded by heading powerfully towards United goal – on this occasion defender John Aruwah was on hand to prevent the ball from crossing the whitewash.

However, United sprung to life near injury time and had two great chances to claw their way back into the contest. First Kurt Lentjies struck the visitors crossbar with a blistering strike from distance.

Soon thereafter, Booysens watched in dismay as his header from a Lentjies free-kick crashed onto the Chiefs upright; striker Rudolf Bester who was following up was unable to hit the target with his close range header.

The second half failed to reach the same intensity as the first. With just a goal separating the teams, United became more adventurous. Itumeleng Khune, Chiefs’ keeper, was eventually called into action in the 70th when he had to keep out Mor Diouf’s long-range free kick.

United leveled matters when an unmarked Rudolf Bester tapped in a long punt from Lentjies, three minutes later. The home team grew in confidence and went in search of all the points on offer.

Their best chance to claim the win came with six minutes from time when Musa Nyatama pulled clear of the his markers and flashed a drive which Khune kept out by getting his body behind the ball; Diyiso Sibisi collected the loose ball but failed to hit the target either.

In the end a share of the spoils is just reward for the efforts of both teams in this encounter.

This Rudolph Bester is very unpatriotic, he did not play for the Namibian national team on Saturday because he had pulled his hamstring, and here he is playing a full 90 minutes for the club... I think he should be dropped from the national team for lying....

One stupid moron prematurely proclaimed yesterday that "...three points for amakhosikazi"...where are those three, did Maritzburg United claim them from your pocket to show that they don't belong to you to both of you?

I woke up this morning with fresh air and morning breeze all over unlike when this pathetic team has won...huuuuuuuu! I wish it can be the same waya waya including after Saturday.

we should not be dropping such points so early,i think the mentality of SA players needs to change, everytime when Chiefs play Pirates the game before their game is either a draw or both teams lose, this has to change

Message to VV:

Chiefs nid experience upfront. Masongo, Nale & Musona r entertaining to watch by they can't win us games. Start using your experience strikers such as Torelba, Motaung & Sthe.

As for the upcoming Wafa Wafa game please leave Masenamela on the bench. He can cope with the pace of Pirates wingers. Make sure you close pirates on the wings & your strikers score goals when chances prevails & us Makhosi fans will leave the stadium happy.

Last tym we won de PSL trophy twice in a row the were draws bt still we managed to snapp de title twice in a row.

I'm suprised wen amatuers lyk KaMashobana who r slow to think, criticise us or a draw.

I mean de same SSU dey r praising has lost it's openning game bt stil dey it'll win de league.

Kanti? which earns a team a point. Is it losing or drawing.

By the way we'll win de league wether SSU wins al their remaining games.I mean with de match officials on our side who can be againist us,is it SSU,Pie-city,Sunlops or Mariabag united no not at all.
For I reckon that this season nothing can separate us frm PSL title.

Huuh i feel lyk preaching,Amen!

If u blv me say Amen..

And then i-Pirates izodliwa yilabantu... Bafile labantu. They play for a draw and hope the referee assists them to defend their one goal. If Musona doesn't score now one will. Penalties, Khune jumps from a goal line just as a penalty taker starts his run by the time he kicks the ball, Khune has taken three strides towards the taker...and the referee just stands there because he knows that he will invoice Bobby.

Jy suqamb'amanga man! Dumitru was never a draw specialist, both at Sundowns and at Chiefs. Kaizer Sh*t started with their draws after Mazinyo's arrival and they never won the league under him. Hhawuuu! Hallelluya
