Masango sends Chiefs through

Kaizer Chiefs beat Mamelodi Sundowns in the Telkom Knockout Cup on Sunday.

Chiefs made heavy weather of beating a defensive Sundowns at a jam-packed Super Stadium to reach the semifinals.

On the run of play Chiefs could easily have embarrassed Downs by a much bigger winning margin.

The only goal was scored by Mandla Masango in the 83rd minute.

Chiefs missed countless chances and could have won 6-0 had they take their chances.

Downs were a huge disappointment to their fans in the capacity 28 000-strong crowd, and failed to force Arthur Bartman into a save.

At the other end, the Brazilians' veteran keeper Brain Baloyi was one of the busiest players on the pitch.

Downs also had Mabhuti Khenyeza sent off in the dying minutes by referee Buyile Gqubule for a second bookable offence.

Amakhosi wasted a number of chances against a hesitant Downs side and when they did manage to find the back of the net in the 42nd minute George Lebese's header was ruled offside.

Downs caretaker coach Trott Moloto opted for a conservative approach using a lone striker in Khenyeza who was ineffective, but received little support from midfield.

Chiefs had a shout for a penalty denied in the third minute when Elias Pelembe appeared to pull down Knowledge Musona inside his penalty area.

But referee Gqubule waved play on.

Baloyi had a busy first half. He did well to turn Abia Nale's dangerous shot for a corner in the 11th minute and stopped a close range shot from Musona, before fisting away a goal-bound free-kick from Mandla Masango.

But the miss of the match went to Lebese in the 28th minute when, after rounding Baloyi, he hesitated and allowed the keeper to recover and clear the danger.

Masondo fired another shot over the crossbar in the 36th minute and then came Lebese's disallowed goal three minutes from the break.

While Chiefs were on top they failed to capitalise because of their powder-puff attack and weakness at free kicks.

Downs defender Luvhengo Mungomeni came to Baloyi and his team's rescue in the 52nd minute when he did well to boot Musonda's shot off his goal-line as Amakhosi kept up the pressure.

Masango finally got it right when he latched onto a Nale through-ball and slotted home seven minutes from time much to the relief of the Chiefs fans in the capacity crowd.

But more disaster struck Downs when Khenyeza, who struggled all afternoon against the well-marshalled Chiefs defence, got his marching orders in the 90th minute for a second bookable offence.

Well done Makhosi I actually wanted you to win to show the Sundowns mickey mouse management how fickle and stupid they are. STONZA where are you with your know-it-all attitude I told you you can't fire a coach bcos he doesn't greet certain @ssholes. You are always defending Mambush,Shakoane and all the idiots at Chloorkop avoiding the truth.

Makhosi played a good game today and it shows nothing beat the desire, commitment, hard work, passion, fitness and the will to die for your team. As for the palooka's that played today there was none of the above and it's bcos of lack of fitness. Undisciplend at the back, always ball watching, no second ball winners in the middle, no movement off the ball, isolating Khanyeza, everybody playing for themselves but I'm not surprised that is how spoiled this old crocks are. Dumitri talked about quality but does it matter if the quality you have is lazy???

You could clearly see the Sundowns players were unfit and couldn't cope with Chiefs pace. From happy days with Stoichkov to the old Sundowns were sadness and heartache prevail. Come back Skhova. Unlucky Sandawana.

The score should've been 6-0, I guess we Sandawanas should celebrate the fact that the goal margin makes it look a close affair to all those who prefer SABC! lol.

Yho yo yoh! We will not hear the end of this.....abo-Sbu, Thabang, Dikotsi and the rest are on their way to work as we speak to make sure they can make a comment about this rtesult even though it's Sunday! lol!

It's well deserved though! Salute Makhosi, salute! You can drool over it all you like!

Damn by the time the Nedbank comes we would be so match unfit it's no joke.I'm not the type of a person who normally throws her toys outer court, but i've got to partially agree Wonder(except name calling) that the Sunday loss is the Management's loss.

You're correct broer, we must fire them all! even Motsepe must piss off because miners are still dying in shafts daily whilst he's killing i-Sundowns!

Wonder, it's not the loss really that I'm livid about.....The coaching baba the coaching!

I swore for the first time in front of my kids when I saw that Trott was not gonna be adept in finding a solution after defending for the entire game, guess what he does next...He brings in a rusty Johannes and to top it all off in true Limpopo swag,,,,, He decides he will 'resurrect' Shakes namhlanje nokwenza! Nx!

Hhey! to all those who support the Motsepe-led Sundowns, nenzwa yindlala! tl.tl.
It's just useless billions like an inheritance which is of no benefit to no one if spent harpharzadly like in our case!Nx!
Rather we were led by the poorer more hard working kind like the Motaung dynasty! lol!

excuses excuses excuses...if Downs felt that they had 2 many problems goin on they shudv pulled outta the competition, Management has always been crooked, Trott has always been useless @ decision making along with his boss Motsepe,Downs lost nje!!!! They were the weaker team on the day, while Chiefs with our Zim boys and recycled locals made them look like amateurs
Shapa khosi shapa...lets celebrate our road 2 the final and u downs fans go complain sumwhere else abt ur Circus...lol

CHIEFS are BEST period! We dont have BIG name overpaid, underperforming stars. We are simply a TEAM, not individuals. We have a great COACH, we have great admistration who only implement football policies. We have the GREATEST fan-base who support and are proud of this GREAT and RICH club.

Sure Sweyts, i personally hate loosing but to loose against the loud Ch!mps is even more painful, it hurts like hell. It was not so much the fact that we lost but the manner in which we lost, it was appalling, even Sonono at their worst could stil do better. But now i hope SononoFC wins the semis because if they don't, we're facked!
