Arrows let Chiefs off the hook

Posted: 9 February 2010 Time: 21:46

By not taking their chances Golden Arrows have allowed Kaizer Chiefs to leave Durban with a point.

The Golden Arrows camp will feel rather aggrieved at being held to a goalless draw at the Moses Mabhida Stadium tonight, especially after wasting numerous chances in the second half.

The point severely dents Arrows chances of making the MTN8, the competition that they won earlier this season.

For Chiefs, the result effectively ends their chances of bagging the league title. They now have 44 points with three matches left to play and it would take a miracle for them to claim the title from this position – especially considering SuperSport United won their match tonight.

After a dour opening 20 minutes of play in the first half, Arrows Njabulo Manqana rifled in a powerful low drive which Chiefs keeper Arthur Bartman grabbed at the second attempt. Seconds later, Knowledge Musona skipped clear from Arrows defence when he collected a poor Thanduyise Khuboni defensive clearance, but Arrows keeper Thulasizwe Khuzwayo came off his line quickly to deny the Zimbabwean striker.

Arrows midfielder Lindokhule Bengu broke down the right flank and sent in a low cross into the Chiefs danger area but Ntlantla Zothwane miscued his strike.

Chiefs' striker Musona rattled the Arrows upright a few minutes before the interval with a well struck shot.

Arrows should have had a handsome advantage had Thokozani Mshengu not been wasteful with the three clear-cut opportunities that came his way in the space of five minutes, minutes after the break.

Midfielder Zothwane tested the reflexes of Bartman in the 58th when he got onto the end of a threaded ball from Mzivukile Tom, but the keeper did enough to avert the danger.

Chiefs only effort on target in the second half came when Musonda made good contact with a strike from 20 metres out that required Khuzwayo to tip over his crossbar. Siyabonga Sangweni got a decisive touch when Abia Nale was bearing down on the Arrows goals in the 75th minute.

Richard Henyekane failed to make contact with a header when he had the Chiefs goals at his mercy a minute later, Thamsanqa Gabuza picked him out with an accurate cross.

The last chance of the match fell to Zothwane with four minutes remaining. Joseph Musonda launched a long throw which Gabuza flicked into the path of the midfielder.

So it looks like the Editor and some people here give the game to Arrows as if Chiefs did not create clear scoring chances.....damn you guys!!!!

KHISI LAMI......yesterday's games was just a game of two halves and should either team took their chances and would have been an interesting finsh. It was a game that could have gone either way

About the coach living out the players you have mentioned, I think as much as you were disapointed when we drew with cosmos, so is the coach. So what he did is, he gave all those guys that did not have game time. To me, he realised that the league is out of reach so playing those guys was a good thing and though they have been some mistakes, I think they did well

Though I am disappointed with the draw, I must give credit to our coach for starting with a very young team. I was moved by the performance of Mthokozisi Yende, this boy is destined for a great career. How can I forget to mention the great runs and superb skills and passes displayed by the duo Mandla Masango and George Lebese. Though Arrows missed clear chances granted by our leaky defense, I tend to differ with the editor. Chiefs were a far better side. We had possession most of the game, wasted by passing the ball around the 18 area without shooting. After all Khosi by Smart Choice

Hehehe, and the group hypnosis continues..."credit for giving young boys a chance", "Yende is destined for a great career (he's 27!)", "VV plays his cards well"....What a bunch of useless fans indeed, no ambition whatsoever, no wonder you work on factory floors!

I agree with the u guys, seeing Yende, masango Lebese was the only good that came out of yesterday's game, but leaving Nhleko n substituting masango was bizzare 2 say the least

Highly disappointed

Beginning of the season there are those of you who wrote Chiefs orbituary while they were still alive surprisingly some of them are fighting for top 8 and it might happen that they will be bow out.Vladimir at least this year you have made Amakhosi proud and we have to bear in our minds that this was your first season.

Let us be very proud about our team and we need to give "VV" a big applause and credit ,remember this is the first season caching Chiefs and he did very well and what l like with him he does not play "SKOP EN DONNOR" ,Those who supports SS now started last season what they were supporting before because it is well known that Supersport was supported by few whites.l am very proud being Chiefs supporter because since l was born l have been a Chiefs supporter and beyond the grave l will be a Chiefs supporter.
Kali,Ka-Mashwabana,Fat Katti and Arly-Gay, to me you are just like leaves that does not to which tree do they belong even your minds are doing the same, that is why ninje.

At best an unspiring draw at worst a boring game. But it was neither here nor ther for Cheats as they have suppased their target, MAKING IT INTO TOP 8 and finishing above PIRACY.

Seems like common has prevailed although quite late. With the current squad Cheats will never win the League let alone finish above Downs.
