SuperSport close in on third title

SuperSport United gave Gavin Hunt a first win, 2-1, over Santos as their coach on Tuesday night.

SuperSport United’s title race remains on track following a hard-earned win over Santos at the Athlone Stadium.

The game ignited after 10 minutes when a superb move involving Brent Carelse, Daine Klate and Anthony Laffor saw the Liberian’s header tipped over the bar.

And from Jabu Maluleke’s 11th minute corner, United found themselves in front as Ricardo Katza netted with a header.

The champions were 2-0 up in the 30th minute as some uncertainty from Tshepo Motsoeneng allowed Dario Monteiro to convert a simple chance.

Santos looked dead and buried at that stage but they came back to hit the woodwork through Graham King’s 36th minute effort before scoring in the 39th minute as Tyren Arendse tapped home Phikolethu Spelman’s cross.

It took a while for second half action to heat up as United tried to slow the game down.

It was certainly Santos who ended the match the stronger side, having chances through King, Spelman and a late header by Musa Otieno, but United survived to take the points despite having Letladi Madubanya sent off in the 75th minute.

Chiefs Supporters are like Chameleons, when their team is not doing well they support other winning teams.

Hehehehe...Hahahaha...They spent more than R10m on 'quality' players, ounces on refs, hired a coach well known for match-fixing scandals and yet fail to dominate our league??? hmm...

"The only way Downs can wrestle the title from SSU is by winning our next 2 games"

Hehehe Wonder, you remind me of every tournament Bafana-Bafana participates in. You will find all of us doing such calculations: "if so & so draw the next game, and Bafana wins 1, and so and so lose the next game, Bafana will qualify..." I feel sorry for you cause I know the pain. To help you out I will quote Thabang: "You cannot implement MINING policies in football" Thabang ( 2010-02-10 07:55)

SSU are making it very difficult but as things stand now, we remain on course. U will remember when amaKhosikazi had 6 games(an equavalent of 18 points)to scratch for just 1 point. They failed!!! Ezenkosi (yami) grabbed it! We just need to keep on winning.

Shame on Cheaps, with 3 games to go u are alredy OUT.

If downs win tonite, and that's if, then it's 3 points difference with a game in hand. Now I don't know about everyone, but I'm loving this tension! It's good for football!!

Come on guys, let's enjoy this moment until the last game. It's like chess- SSU win, Sundowns win, advantage the team that wins last. hehehe, forget the sour grapes from Cheaps fans who hate Sundowns with passion, this is the biggest climax especially since most of you have never had it hahahaha!!

Ey!Now we must rely on some teams to help us by stopping Suppersport. But I agree with Wonder that we still have what it takes to win the league depending on the outcome of this weeks crucial two games. How I wish it was Chiefs or Bucks leading cause they are inconsistent. As for Tsatsantsa...you rock guys.Playing this catch up games with you is really frustrating...But as you know my motto...THE SKY IS THE LIMIT.Organisers...lets go and paint Super ka bo Yellow and give the boys the necessary support.

It is so hard to admit it but damn supersport is good. Just when I think they will falter they emphatically win thier games. The league is gone. I dont see sundowns doing a smash and grab.

It will also be interesting what will happen next season with the imminent departure of Gavin Haunt to BB and Pitso to Sundowns.
