Xulu wins it for Sundowns

Posted: 19 December 2009 Time: 17:24

Siyanda Xulu’s goal with 10 minutes to go handed Mamelodi Sundowns a 2-1 Absa Premiership win over Kaizer Chiefs at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Katlego Mphela continued his fine form with a 35th-minute opener, but Amakhosi hit back through Josta Dladla’s penalty just before the break.

Inside the opening two minutes Chiefs were on the back foot, with Itumeleng Khune coming to the rescue twice early on. First he made an acrobatic save to deny Luvengo Mungomeni, before keeping out Mabhuti Khenyeza’s header from debutant Franklin Cale’s corner-kick.

Khune then denied Mphela, saving with his legs in a one-on-one situation, before the Sundowns striker headed just wide of goal on 20 minutes.

Chiefs were having difficulty dealing with the continuous attacks, with Mungomeni’s shot shaving the outside of the upright, before the opener eventually arrived.

Tlou Molekwane’s backpass to Khune was woefully short, allowing the striker to get past the keeper and slot into an empty net.

However, despite the one-sided nature of the game, Chiefs went into the break on level terms after Mungomeni was adjudged to have handled Reneilwe Letsholonyane’s shot. Dladla converted from the spot.

Sundowns continued their dominance after the break, with Khenyeza missing another great chance just before the hour-mark, before they got the winner their play deserved on 78 minutes.

Pelembe’s free-kick from the left was flicked on by Khenyeza, but Khune managed to blocked the ball. However, Xulu was on hand to bundle the ball over the line for three crucial points.

The last piece of action came in second half stoppage-time as Khune got down well to save Surprise Moriri’s free-kick.

I've heard through the grapevine that Thabang,Dikotsi,Pearl,Brokefan,Sbuda,Micheal and all the other Cheaps supporters are out with Bobby looking for Jerome Damon. I'm told they want a refund for not disallowing both goals and for not awarding another penalty, strangely, they wanted Damon to give them the second penalty after Cale was brought down in their half. This is because they agreed with Damon that they want to win the match by hook or crook.

Where are all these people who insulted when i said Jimmy Jambo delibarately earned himself a yellow card to avoid a career threating confrontation with Pelembe? What happened with Molekwane? This Jambo is clever.

Why Chiefs used a rightfooted player in position three while we have a born leftfooted player? You can not use Nhleko on a flaxible game like that one. the game was flexable that why sundowns didn,t use Booth. Congratulations to Sadawana. It was a good game to watch.

You know this is sad story the only time i wished Sunfloer can beat the Khosi, they were playing K**K since Wednesday, likely the effect of Tshabalala its not that much cause we can do without him unlike that other team. Well played boys 4rm Mamelodi though you only play like that when playing Chiefs we understand, you have to win otherwise you'll be loaned to another team on conditions.
