Downs keep winning

The Moses Mabhida Stadium continues to be an unhappy hunting ground for AmaZulu, as they were beaten 3-0 by visitors Mamelodi Sundowns.

All three goals came in the second half goals through the efforts of Katlego Mphela (brace) and Lebohang Mokoena.

In their previous outing at this venue, AmaZulu were beaten 1-0 by Maritzburg United.

This result stretches Sundowns current unbeaten run to five matches, and Bafana Bafana minders will be pleased with Mphela’s good form in front of goals. His strikes in this encounter took his tally of goals to 15, as he continues to head the PSL goalscoring standings.

Although the steady drizzle which fell during much of the first half forced the almost 7 000 supporters in attendance to scurry for cover, they certainly would have not had much to complain about concerning the on-field action.

Both teams were evenly matched, as they took turns to dominate. The standout moments of the first half was clearly the two attempts on goal from either side that hit the respective uprights. First, Mphela hit the post from just outside the penalty area after dispossessing Thamsanqa Sangweni in midfield in the fifth minute.

In the 18th minute Marc van Heerden watched in despair as his power-packed free-kick was tipped to safety by Brian Baloyi in the Sundowns goal, with the help of the post.

A minute later, AmaZulu had a legitimate penalty claim turned down when defender Siboniso Gaxa seemed to have used his hand to prevent the ball from falling into the path of AmaZulu’s Sibusiso Hadebe who was charging into the Sundowns box.

Baloyi was called into action a short while later, this time he got a firm touch to parry away Ayanda Dlamini’s strike from the edge of the area.

The match continued to in a similar in fashion in the second half, until the 70th minute when Mphela diverted Gaxa’s cross past Kalililo Kakonje in the AmaZulu goal. Sundowns supporters hardly completed their celebrations when Lebohang Mokoena crashed home a cross from the right flank a minute later.

The Mphela rubbed further salt into AmaZulu’s wounds when he converted a penalty with seconds remaining. The kick was awarded when Ntokozo Sikhakhane brought down Gaxa in the danger area. Sikhakhane, who replaced Sangweni in the 79th minute, received his marching orders for his efforts.

You are wrong, we neither want to be regarded as a big team nor an old one for that matter, but we want to be known as THE BEST TEAM IN THE PSL as is the case....!!!!

It's gonna be hard this week with all the travelling between GP and KZN...chimps might have taken this game to kzn knowing what the travelling will do to our players...having said all that..I believe if we keep our concerntration levels high at the back we will beat chimps hands down...

We actually need to win the next three games and we will only be a few points from the top...from there on anything is possible.
