Chenene wins it for Bucs

Posted: 12 December 2009 Time: 17:28

Bennett Chenene’s goal midway through the second half saw Orlando Pirates beat Platinum Stars at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

It was a long overdue win for Bucs – their first away from home in three months – to keep their faint title hopes alive.

However, Stars can rightly feel aggrieved at some decisions that went their way, most notably when they had a good goal disallowed in the opening minute. Last week against Kaizer Chiefs, Stars had a penalty given against them which was never a penalty.

It was clear that Tshepo Ramokala was in an onside position when he received the ball from Henrico Botes and scored from the kick-off, but the officials decided otherwise.

Stars edged the first 45 minutes on a hot, steamy afternoon. But Chenene dented the post in the fifth minute when he thudded a good cross from Dikgang Mabalane against the woodwork. Then six minutes later Lebogang Mothibantwa was wide of the Stars woodwork.

Stars’ Bradley Grobler shot over the crossbar a minute later when he had the goal at his mercy., and then the best out of Moeneeb Josephs, who did well to punch his rocket away from danger in the 19th minute.

At the other end, Stars keeper Tapuwa Kapini did well to get behind and stop a powerful bullet from Lucky Lekgwathi in the 35th minute. Five minutes later, Mabalane blasted over the crossbar from inside the penalty area.

Bucs started the second half with more urgency. Lekgwathi wasted an opportunity to put his side ahead in the 51st minute when he was given a free header inside the six yard area, but the Bucs skipper headed straight at Kapini.

Kapini did brilliantly to deny Mabalane a goal in the 66th minute, but the pressure eventually told a minute later when Chenene scored.

But the left-wing wasted a chance to seal the game when he miskicked with the goal at his mercy in the 72nd minute.

The three points takes Pirates up to second place behind SuperSport United, though they have played two games more than most of their competitors.

U all r hypocrites. I was at the stadium and Stars were denied a legit goal in the first minute. If it were Chiefs, u would all be screaming murder but bcos it's ur rotten team, it's ll good. U r now winning by default & by crook. That goal was similar to the one that Nale scored which was also denied and u freaks kept quiet. U r a lot of Pharisees!
Pirates is not 1 skipper team or Gayser Chiefs aka Family Business FC

Good one boys! But my worry is Thulas Mbuyane?? He's a striker but how many goals has he scored this season, or assists at least. Talk about favouritism..... Also big ups Mothibantwa was playing, i knew it was just a matter of time before the coach swallows his pride and plays him ahead of Mdluli.

Well let's start building for next season.....i know others will say we always say next time but it's just a matter of time before the glory days come back. Others are going our route at the moment and we are just waiting for our chance to shine again.

Once and always...
