Chiefs sink Maritzburg United

Posted: 6 December 2009 Time: 18:45

Goals from Jimmy Jambo and Abia Nale in the closing minutes helped Kaizer Chiefs post a 3-1 win over Maritzburg United at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.

This match between the two sides was billed as a grudge match after Maritzburg beat Chiefs 1-0 at the Orlando Stadium in the first round.

Chiefs started like a house on fire with their wide men, Abia Nale and Siphiwe Tshabalala attacking the United defence.

Against the run of play, the home side got their first chance to score in the 21st minute, when their striker Fadlu Davids hit a tame shot at Ithumuleng Khune.

The Chiefs goalkeeper showed signs of rustiness a minute later when he left his goal line to block Felix Obada's threathening run into his area but failed to stop the wingers' progress. As a result, Obada picked out Davids with a cross but the striker failed to keep his header on target.

The Amakhosi opened the scoring when Nale went on a surging run down the right flank and eventually squared a ball into the path of Nkosinathi Nhleko who side-footed past Shu-Aib Walters, making his debut in the Maritzburg goals.

The home team equaliser came from nowhere when Musa Nyatama ran straight through the middle of Chiefs defence to level matters two minutes before the interval.

With the heat taking its toll on the players, the tempo of the match decreased in the second half. Rudolph Bester hit the Chiefs crossbar with the a thunderous shot in the 63rd minute.

But it was Chiefs who went ahead when Jambo scored in the 82nd minute when he ran onto a well weighted pass from Jose Torrealba who came on as a substitute in these second half. The wingback fired home from a tight angle.

Nale put the contest beyond doubt when he ran past a static Maritzburg defence and stabbed the ball past Walters, two minute from the end.

At the press conference after the match, Middendorp conceded that his men lost concentration at the vital stage and this is what caused them to leve empty handed.

I agree with you 100%...the issue of the legitimate goal by Nale will be swept under the carpet...the same can be said by the penalty received by Amazulu...

The most useless players at chiefs so far: Kaizer Jnr & Sibeko. Can some pls tell me, after so many years as a footballer you still cant find form. personaly jnr and sibeko should be released from their contracts. Thabang Rooi should be calm at back and be more composed. Other than that khosi for life.

I guess if the goal that was ruled offside against Chiefs had been ruled against Maritzburg, people would be saying that the ref was bribed. But those people are nowhere to be seen here! 3 down, 11 to go! It is not over until the fat lady sings! Shapa Makhosi Shaaaaaaaaaapa! yho na yhooo!

It's only the smart people like us the Khosi family who celebrate every day the decisions we made at a very young age...To our rivals please do not get confused, we are not challenging for the league but intend to win at least 90% of our remaining games. Khosi by Smart Choice

This Coach has impressed me thus far.

On Wednesday he rested Nale, Nhleko, Tshabalala, Dladla....and guess what...he fielded another strong side to play Amazulu and to me they still did the onus...Yo...talking about good planning...He yesterday's match substitute were spot on...Chiefs has got depth...Chiefs haters can say what they want to say....But I am still saying we need another target man upfront in case Nhleko got layoff because of injuries and suspension....31 + 3 points against P/Stars on Wednesday = 34....Supersport...we are coming...siyeza...watch out!

To all the Khosi Family who loves football and resides in Mpumalanga, let us go and fill Pums Stadium in Emalahleni (e-witty kwesami isigodi), to support our home team when they play our main rival by default, Orlando Pirates...let's get our LAKAMA replica Aces jerses and sing for Amazayizayi....Please Mpumalanga Makhosi lets help Aces to beat Pirates by becoming the 13th Player...since they already have their 12th player in their original supporters!!!
