Chiefs thump Wits

Posted: 29 November 2009 Time: 18:00

Kaizer Chiefs kept their faint hopes of challenging for the Absa Premiership alive with a morale-boosting 3-0 win over Bidvest Wits on Sunday.

The win moves Amakhosi to within nine points of leaders and defending champions SuperSport United, who have 37 points with Chiefs on 28.

But the game only came alive after the break when Chiefs took the game to their opponents, with goals from Reneilwe Letsholonyane, Abia Nale and Josta Dladla.

The best moment of the first-half came when referee Buyile Gqubule blew for halftime; it was a poor first half in which neither side managed to get going in the Johannesburg sun.

Chiefs coach Vladimir Vermezovic decided to bring back his number one goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune after three-and-a-half months out with an injured finger. But Khune could have stayed at home as all he had to do in the opening period was deal with a half-hearted shot from Patrick Phungwayo in the 31st minute.

But Chiefs went for the kill in the second and looked in a different class against a side which looked like they were playing for a draw - a tactic which backfired badly.

Wits keeper Chansa came to the rescue in the 49th minute when he beat Masango to a dangerous cross from Nkosinathi Nhleko and managed to stop the Amakhosi midfielder hitting the target from close range.

Then Nhleko set up Nale in the 58th minute and the Chiefs winger shaved the upright with a fierce drive.

Chansa dived bravely at Masango's feet on 61 minutes and then spoilt the save by making a meal of diving on the loose ball.

But in the 69th minute Chansa showed his incredible reflexes when he stopped a goal-bound close-range shot from Nale to keep the home side in the game.

But the pressure had to pay off for Amakhosi, and this time Chansa was helpless as substitute Dladla rounded the Students keeper and laid off the ball to Letsholonyane who tapped home into an empty net in the 77th minute.

Nale beat Phungwayo inside his penalty area and slotted home to make it 2-0 in the 85th minute.

Then came the cherry on top when Dladla, a former Wits star, blasted home the third goal in the 90th minute much to the delight of the 5 000 odd Chiefs fans that packed the stadium.

I really do not Know how Chiefs came about to sign Yende, he need to take his game seriously or be sold.

Our striking force is a concern, Torrealba & Kaizer Jnr must come to a party and Help the hardworking Nhleko.

what a second half performance, Dankie the Glamour Boys.

Cannot agree more with you geomag, De Sa cost Wits the game yesterday !!!! sies man

How do you take your key player off in a crucial game like that. Haskins was the only player that looked like he was going to score for Wits.

He was defending and attacking and when he was taken off Chiefs mid-fielders suddently came alive and it seemed like they had extra players on their side and the goals started coming in!

Wits coaching staff is losing the plot and they seriously need to assess themselves!
The same thing happened with SSU - Haskins scored the equalizer and nearly scored a second after that. They then substitute him and SSU comes alive and scores a second to win - how the hell they could have made that substitution still boggles my mind.
Have to agree with geomag- as the same thing happened with Amazulu and Aces - they take the boy off and the opposition suddenly has more room to play!

Fact is Chief sis very incosistant. Fact it Wits paid dearly yesterday.
Masango is a perpetual potential, he has and may never come to the party. Give Yende some time and you'll see the best, even better than Mayambela.

Yeye is King, yet he started like Yende. Reason enough to give yende some time to adjust.
Thanks for not playing Junior. Am not sure why but good stuff he didnt play.

Khune is a moral booster to the boys. Nengo is and will remain the best player at Chiefs. Very consistant hence his perfomance is never noticed, it is as to be expected and more all the time.

I'm stil reeling from the walloping we received from SS though.

Sure SBUDA KHOSI! As I said it last week, what our coach said was the cleverest thing a coach can ever say under those circumstances. Now the pressure has shitted way from CHIEFS players to those of the OPPOSITION. I still say CHIEFS may not win the league BUT people will be suprised by our dramatic finish in Feb.

Welldone Khosi all our attacking midfielders scored thanx to the hardwork of Nhleko yet some lunatics dont realise the job his doing. His task is not only to score but also to create space for oncoming attacking players which is what he did yesterday.Yende needs to be given some time he's a great player and i dont think he became bad overnight. It was good to see both Itu and Masango back.Khosi till the end......Smax

Asked if he misses his days with Kaizer Chiefs, he revealed, “Eish, outhi yam, eish…I won’t say much but bazozwa (they will hear about my progress). I didn’t leave them because I had a problem with anyone. I left on good terms. The coaches were coming and going and some of them didn’t feel like working with star players. I had to go! Yes, I miss them. There can be Sundowns, Pirates or whoever, but Chiefs will always be Chiefs and you can’t take that away from them. They are very professional.”

as long as the coach put,the strongest starting eleven not his favourites, like kaizer jnr chiefs will win.i once spoke to two players from chiefs and they said sometimes they feel obliged to pass jnr even though they know possesion will be lost.put kaizer jnr on transfer[free] tshabalala on the bench until he can score ,shoot with precision, pass acurately, shoot with pace, improve his right foot.that boy jambo also is shaky at the back, put masenamela back in that position.play dladla and nhleko while we are waiting for musona, give torrealba 5 succesive games.treat all players the same, motivate them and build them.buy an extra striker and defender[central].let us get going.
