SuperSport break Chiefs hearts

Posted: 25 November 2009 Time: 21:45

SuperSport United produced a sterling second half performance to beat Kaizer Chiefs 2-0 at the Loftus Stadium.

The first half was a dreary affair and fans were frustrated as the star men in either team came off injured. First it was Kaizer Motaung Junior who replaced Knowledge Musona, who came off in the ninth minute after initially coming off for treatment on his knee.

He was soon followed by Siyabonga Nkosi, who was replaced by Jabulani Maluleke, who later on became the thorn in Chiefs’ defence.

The two teams applied cautious tactics for the better part of the first half. It was only late in the half that the game produced its best chance.

In the 33rd minute, Chiefs striker Nkosinathi Nhleko received a great through ball from Motaung Junior in the box, but with Emille Baron to beat in SuperSport’s goal, Nhleko took a tame shot and the former Chiefs keeper was alert as he used his left hand to block the ball, but it fell kindly to Siphiwe Tshabalala, but the latter dilly-dallied and Baron blocked his way.

The second half started on a low note and things went from bad to worse as the lights went off temporarily, but as soon as they were back on, SuperSport looked like a team that had used the break more cleverly.

Abia Nale, who had come in for Tshabalala, could have put Chiefs in the lead in the 61st minute, but his low shot was blocked by the in-form Baron, who was named man of the match.

However, soon after that it was SuperSport dictating terms. Matsatsantsa took the lead in the 66th minute through Glen Salmon, who had received a perfect cross from Maluleke. Salmon used his thigh to sneak in the ball.

Three minutes later, it was Maluleke who was celebrating. He received a brilliant defence-splitting pass from Anthony Laffor and he controlled, then smashed it to Bartman’s right.

Though Vladimir Vermezovic made another change when he brought in Mthokozisi Yende for Josta Dladla late in the second half, it was clear Matsatsantsa were in the driving seat and deservedly walked away with the three points.

And still we ask: Based on form and most recent PSL trophies- who are the real giants of SA soccer?
Chiefs- last won the league 6 seasons ago. Have a large following but that doesn't count. Not giants.
Pirates- last won the league 10 seasons ago. Also have a large following which doesn't count. Not giants.
Sundowns- Last won the league 4 seasons ago- in succession- and look like real challengers to SSU. Genuine giants.
Supersport- Have won the league in the last 2 seasons- in succession. Leading the pack. Genuine giants.
There you have it. Two giants of Mzansi soccer- they are both from Pretoria.

PRETORIA SOCCER LEAGUE OR PRETORIA SUNDOWNS/SUPERSPORT LEAGUE. However you look at it it makes lot of sense in the field of play. Even the refrees who try to subbotage us know that in God we trust, who can be against us while he is with us. Halala pretoria Halala.

For those who are in denial it is ok Mvuvelwa Mbeki was also there for a while until he had a last kick. What is left is for Thieves and Pie Rats to form their own league and compete amongst themselves since they are dragging PSL and soccer generally backwads with their dubvius leaders.

I am not going to let my love for Chiefs cloud my judgement, its a fact, you can't be a champion if you can't beat the champions, lastly there was once a mighty and fierce Amakhosi.

Sorry khosi family the sooner I accept the truth the bettering of my health. I will support it to death, but I'll just look at it as a beautiful wife I once married and now she is getting old and fat like Rooi, with CHUBABAS.

Fair enough. Cheaps didn't practise fair play and decided to attack, got dispossessed, and SSU scored. Poetic justice hit them. And know the rules before you comment: referees stop the match when there's a head injury or collision. Fair play. Now go cry into your tea faggy boy.

Nothing wrong Makhosi we lost to a better side.I'm bit concern though about Jostas perfomance he seems reluctant to play, keeps giving the ball to opponents at dangerous areas.Bobby must sign Sangweni to assist Sweswe.VV must bring back Masango we are so predictable nothing comes from our right midfield.Again buy a striker to compliment Nhleko and Musona get rid of Torrealba since his arrival he has not lived up to ama-expectations.Lastly we cant faulter the coach its his first season at the helm and we'll be in the top 3 come end of the season.Smax

Personally, I believe that Chiefs does not deserve to even make Top 8 this season. What a boring display. What was Kaizer Chiefs's game plan last night? Dladla is off form, so as Tshabalala. Our goalkeeper does not know how to mashall his defence, Thabang Rooi and Sweswe combination does not work. Where is Ntuka? What happened to the players who gave Celtics a hiding on Macufe Cup? The coach should just forget about winning the league and give other players a chance to get match practice for next season. He was on the stands when Ace won Macufe, VV got no clue of what he wants of his players, no tactical awareness @ all. chiefs used to bring quality coaches, but not anymore. You need to spend more money Kaizer. I'm sick of watching below par Kaizer chiefs.

We were beaten fair and square.

It's about time that Chiefs build a strong squad...

To me Chiefs have a bunch of players who are just like any other team in the PSL and that is not good for the health of BAFANA BAFANA.

If Chiefs is not playing well,BB suffers.

Let me take you through my argument;

Nhleko is not creative at all!
Klein Baas needs to be loaned to another team for growth purposes!
Nale is always making things difficult for himself!
Rooi is a good man maker not a good central defender!
Shabba tend to over do things!

Bobby and company must beef up this squad and release the garbage asap!

I love this team so much that i don't like to witness this type of mediocre we see every day!

Supersport is not a team to beat, but a team that plays to win.

to me, Pirates is still a team to beat, they have a crop of quality players, if put together correctly can cause a lot of problems to opponents!

U see SIBUSISO, As a Khosi Fan, I am being objective and say things as they are.

This current bunch will take us nowhere!

VV must bring Khune Back to where he belongs, that is point number 1.

Number 2. Jambo must nor overlap at all, because that is not his strenght, Nale must start the match as the forward left winger, because Shabba is "Tired".

Number 3. Dladla must also be rested and bring back Masango or get a quality right winger like segolelo from Celtics, I am sick and tired of Chiefs playing without crosses coming from the right, and players without pace.Nx!

Number 4. Chiefs must get a target man somewhere in this planet (earth) so that Nhleko can be benched and Musona to get someone to play around. Nhleko is not doing us any favour, on a one on one base, he fumbles! I am sick of this!

Number 5. Sweswe must sort his attitude out, he is a good player, but he needs to grow up, and Sangweni must be bought out right, with immediate effect...

Number 6. Thabang Rooi, yo...this guy is bad news!

But I still love Kaizer chiefs and will never wake up supporting any other team in the PSL.....

Bobby abd company must just flippin'wake up and smell the fans frustration....

Stambo Nhleko is a target man problem is he does not get the essential support from the midfield but i agree with you on the right flank issue we play from one side only and thats not good for us.

Two soft goals by Supersport. Lack of concentration by Chiefs players. Chiefs players knew the strength. In the 1st goal Chiefs allowed SS to play a cross which resulted in a goal. The less said about the second goal the better. Stupid play as there was a player down for SS.

It looks like this season Chiefs will win zilch! nada! If the current bunch of players keep on huffing and puffing like last night match! Yo!

You sound exhausted, but its footbal, you win some and lose some. But for Chiefs and Pirates to lose with same score to both Pretoria teams should be a concern. Even Sundowns was a different team against Pirates. Pirates just survived a disappointing score. Kaizer Chiefs could have easily plaid a draw if they did'nt lack concentration at the back to concede those two goals. Both goals were not classic as far as I am concerned.

I admit we were beaten fair and square. I'm still trying to figure what went wrong cos the way we were playing was not that bad to concede goals in quick succession like that.

I understand what you are saying and its true but lets hope for the best

Sometimes when things happen like this man you just loose your mind......but I hope the boys will come out of it.

CHIEFS PLAYERS ARE A BUNCH OF AMETEURS. Itu, Musona and the other youngsters aside since they are not given an opportunity by management. Can you b'lieve it, KC management complains when a coach fields yourster instead of Old Zwane and Tau.
