Bucs win at last

Posted: 8 November 2009 Time: 18:03

After six League games without a win, Orlando Pirates beat Bloemfontein Celtic on Sunday afternoon, thanks to a brace from Katlego Mashego.

Mashego was rightly named as Man of the Match after playing a large part in his side’s 3-1 win over the Phunya Sele Sele in an exciting league game at the Orlando Stadium in Soweto.

Lucas Thwala got Pirates' second, and Excellent Walaza pulled one back for Celtic, before Mashego sealed the deal in the 74th.

The game was scrappy for the first 20 minutes, and neither team took the game by the scruff of the neck until Pirates took the lead in the 34th minute, when Mashego came out on top in a one-on-one situation with the Celtic goalkeeper.

Thulasizwe Mbuyane was phenomenal winning the ball in midfield and then noticing some space behind the Celtic defence; consequently he produced a great through ball for Mashego to run onto. With only the keeper to beat Mashego was clinical in his finish.

Thereafter, Pirates took complete control of the game. Under a barrage of attack, however, Celtic held firm and managed to get to half-time only a goal down.

The second half saw Celtic come out looking determined to get back on level terms, but in the 62nd minute Twhala appeared to have snuffed out the Celtic fire with the Buccaneers second goal, rising above the Celtic defence with a fantastic header, giving the keeper no chance.

Celtic were not prepared to take defeat lying down and pulled a goal back through Walaza in the 72nd minute. Walaza rounded off a great run and pass from Spandeel with a clinical finish from only a couple of yards out.

Celtic's joy was short lived as Mashego extended his side’s lead back to two. Mongala was the man to drive into the 18 yard box and provide an inch perfect pass for Mashego to slot home.

Great win by Umzi omnyama

I like the idea of winning by 3 goals, WOW change is good.

While Teko Deco Modise rests, this mean we are going to finish in style.

I am surprised that these Rats fans dont congratulate Mdluli for perfoming so well yesterday. That boy is proving to them that their favouratisym of certain players will kill the team.Mdluli was so strong in the midfield that Celtics midfield was no where to be found.Anyway I noticed that the squad that pled Yesterday was the team selected by Craig Roslee as for the 1st time I saw him so active in the bench since joining the Rats.I cant wait to see Kroll coming back after the breake playing his favourate step sons sons and loose games again

Have you noticed that in most cases when Kaizer Chiefs plays first and win, Pirates also wins thereafter? About Pirates, Krol should remember that all players need game time in one way or the other, if he really intends to win the league. The indications are that the graph of Pirates is slowly turning upward, and its only consistency that will make Pirates a good team now, 15 games to go is long period.

It was a wrong approach to start the game with 5 defenders, ODG. I think we need the stability of Gold stone at the back. Put Khaile on the bench. Mongala was just too strong for Sambu as well

great game Pirates...Krol has learned the hard way,he needed to rotate his squad than play with one team full of a bunch of mediocre players like Teko who're big headed.he listened and it worked for him..whats thw use of buying players and put them on the bench for 15 games.great game Phenyo Mongala, show Teko how to put those balls behind the defence of oponents.AND PLEASE GUYS THE GUY'S NAME IS PHENYO MZAMBIYA MONGALA not Tornado or Tiger Mongalo

Phenyo Mongala was unbelievable in the left wing. Krol you should play Modise behind the strikers and you will see pirates win games with a lot of goals..aye ye Phenyo Mongala aye ye

Phenyo Mzambiya Mongala....great speed, great technique and great execution,he put in decent crosses in the box but Masina's finishing was not up to scratch...finally Phenyo listened to me, i once told him to play his game and not surrender responsibility, he ddnt listen and said "Thanx for your shit advice"...but i see he took some of that advice though

yeah Stex...i think Modise can be good if played just behind the Strikers not wing,he's not a winger.
