Downs shot down by Arrows

Posted: 7 November 2009 Time: 17:22

Mamelodi Sundowns lost ground in the League title race after a 1-0 defeat to Golden Arrows at Chatsworth Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Musa Bilankulu netted the only goal of the game midway through the first half.

Arrows did most of the early attacking, with Richard Henyekane testing Brian Baloyi with a few well-struck long-range efforts.

But it was Sundowns who came closest to the opening goal – Katlego Mphela’s shot across the face of goal shaving the upright.

Vusumuzi Vilakazi then hit a shot from a tight angle which Baloyi tipped over, and from the resultant corner Bilankulu rose highest to head home Henyekane’s corner.

Sundowns had a chance to draw level before the break, but Mphela, one-on-one with goalkeeper Khuzwayo, fluffed his lines, with Mabhuti Khenyeza unmarked in the centre.

Mphela was again involved in Downs’ best chance on the hour-mark – his cross played in towards Khenyeza, who was undone by the bounce of the ball two yards from goal.

The rest of the game saw precious little goal-mouth action, with Njabulo Manqana curling a shot over from the edge of the area, while Esrom Nyandoro’s cracker was well held by Khuzwayo.

Khuzwayo then made a great save with his legs to deny Mphela in the dying minutes, handing Arrows a famous win.

Sundowns supporters, please stop blaming Brian. The problem is with set pieces and central defence. Goal keepers will do nothing because set pieces are too fast. We must begin to score from set pieces and to defend set pieces. Look at Chelsea vs Man utd yesterday. a set piece gave chelsea a win. supersport is winning most of the games through set pieces.

Will Michael Manzini finish his LLB degree,
Everytime Sundowns lose, he fails a test or exam.

As for Nanana Ntombela's club, it was empty this weekend

Alex Bhansi Mapela's car wash had one Taxi the whole day, the taxi happens to be Fire Masilelas.

I wonder what happend at Mambush tuck shop

Well, well you win some you loose some. Not bad performance but the coach needs to solve that central midfield. Hard luck boys. Well done to mabhakaniya.

i am speechless-we are like security guards that get paid every forth night. we have clearly become a forth night winning team. i am also concernd with the way we are playing our away games, we are hardly scheduled to play @ home. the travelling to this clusbs that plays unattractive football affatects our winning streak
