Mphela the hero once again

Posted: 4 November 2009 Time: 21:26

Mamelodi Sundowns moved into the top four of the Absa Premiership after a 1-0 win over Moroka Swallows at Dobsonville on Wednesday evening.

Once again Katlego Mphela was the hero for the Brazilians, netting his 11th goal of the season 10 minutes before half-time.

The result was a fair reflection of the play, with Sundowns doing most of the attacking for the start. Benedict Vilakazi, getting a rare start, tested Greg Etafia early on, while Matty Pattison fired just wide a few minutes later.

However, Swallows were unlucky not to grab the lead on 22 minutes when Brian Baloyi dropped a routine cross at the feet of Davi Rancan, but his effort was cleared on the line by Siyanda Xulu.

Vilakazi again tested Etafia from the edge of the area, before Mphela broke the deadlock on 36 minutes – running onto Esrom Nyandoro’s perfect through-ball before beating the keeper at the near post.

Etafia did well to keep out Elias Pelembe’s free-kick just before the break to keep his team in the game.

Swallows rung the changes at the break, and it almost paid off as Shaun Haschick slid in to flick on Sibusiso Khumalo’s cross, but the ball went straight at Baloyi.

Mphela then had a great chance to secure the points with 15 minutes to go, going one-on-one with the keeper after some excellent build-up play, but his shot with the outside of his foot drifted wide.

Khumalo then dragged a shot just wide in injury-time as Sundowns walked away with the points.

We are the only big team winning now, no wonder we have so many haters. All the relegation candidates out there, please argue with other relegation candidates and leave us the league contenders to argue with other league contenders.

Gavin Hunt can feel our heavy breathing behind him. We will stop anyteam that tries to equal our record of 3 titles in the row. We stopped Chickens and they never won the league again. SSU beware of Sunflower or Sunflops or whatever they call us.

Mr Motsepe made a mistake by hiring a killer in his club. Now he is allerged to be having 11 counts of murder. One was killed last night. He's no longer just a killer but a serial killer. Mr Motsepe need a good lawyer to defend why he hired a killer in his team. I also heard that if he is not caught he is going to kill for Bafana, watch the space

He hasn't done much but I tell you that boy Siyabonga Ngubane is destined for bigger things. His touches are a marvel to watch. He reminds me of Gift Leremi. I hope he will keep level headed and concetrate on his football.

After losing how many games ?

it is still too early to say Sundowns is back in action. The trick is to see if they can sustain the current form.

Some people tend to critise even when they're not suppose to,but i hope this around people who hate Downs would take note of the fact that we've been performing well all along it's just that sometimes luck is sometimes not on our side.To the boys keep up the good work&strive for that consistancy now.I can't wait for Abafana Bes'thende's game on Saturday.Let's make that top two position our priority, once we get there we should strive for position one&stay there until the end of the Season.

If playing for BB was based on performance, I'll definitely opt for Mphela over Benni, but since we are in Mzanzi were history plays football, then Benni will obviously outsmart poor killer.

Sundowns HORORSCOPE

1. Mamelodi Sundowns.
Fate has always smiled on them & has returned as usual.
Hardly go a season without winning a significant trophy. Never go three seasons without winning the League title.
Renowned Organizers, Immanuel Kant best descrides them "SCIENCE IS ORGANIZED KNOWLEDGE. WISDOM IS ORGANIZED LIFE" this equates Sundowns aka Organizers.

Shapa killer shapa!!!

Heita Sweyts. Da Birdz deserved to win the game 'cause we were all over da Brazilians in the 2nd half, vice versa in the 1st half. 6 defenders did avoid the massacre, agree? But da European 50/50- long ball is not da way Swallows should play. We'll make a comeback-silverware belongs in Jozi for sure! Mamelodi Sundawana and SS must know its still early!
