Chiefs, Pirates in stalemate

Posted: 31 October 2009 Time: 17:14

A late attack by Kaizer Chiefs is not enough to break the deadlock in a mediocre Soweto Derby.

Substitutes Knowledge Musona and Chippa Nhleko kept Chiefs on the attack, but while a few scoring chances were created late on it never looked as if one would be put away.

Bucs midfielder Andil Jali deserves a mention for some tigerish tackling in helping Bucs keep the score level.

Siphiwe Tshabalala’s attempt in the final minute crashed off the woodwork and some may feel Amakhosi deserved a goal here.

But sadly, the match needed somebody to put his hand up and take responsibility and it never came.

Abia Nale, Tshabalala and Musona looked the liveliest in attack for Chiefs while Thulasizwe Mbuyane threatened on occasion for Bucs.

But on both sides, the final pass was just not good enough and genuine creativity was lacking.

The first half, while dominated by Pirates, was very scrappy with both sides giving away possession and neither able to get into any type of rhythm.

Chiefs’ best scoring attempts of the first half came when Reneilwe Letsholonyane let rip from distance with his left, but Moeneeb Jospehs tipped it over the bar for a corner.

From the resultant kick, Kaizer Motaung Jnr got a slight touch with his head, the ball fell to Thomas Sweswe at the back post, but couldn’t keep his left-footed volley down.

Bennet Chenene (late in the game), Mbuyane and Lucky Lekgwathi (from a free kick) came closest for Pirates.

But with their most creative player, Teko Modise, struggling for form, Pirates are in need of somebody else to take responsibility in the final third.

Both these former giants lack class and finesse, there was absolutely no special player in the park..... How things have changed....Nc! Nc! Nc!

Hey guys, even TTM agrees that the derby was boring? Unbelievable!

But i'm not surprised, i just don't know why it took people this long to see wht every logogical people hve been seeing all along. This derby is not only boring, but it is the most overrated derby in the World. Since the departure of Skhosana, there's really nothing to write home about. I still maintain that SSU and Sundowns provide a much more better spectacle on the field as compared to this 2, they just can't match the 2 on the stands.

you sundowns and supersport clons you are talking rubbish...
soweto derby is the best in SA whether you like it or not..

what is a derby ?

tswane derby is nothing man. with your guys minority support its wrong to talk as if you know it all. if you guys can start filling stadiums, dominating africa then you can be taken seriously otherwise you are all talking nonsense..

say OP an KC are playing, 47 million south africans out of 48 pay attention and are keen to know the results...the 47 million is KC and OP supporters while the remaining is Swallows, Sundowns, Supersport and the rest of the teams.
If you guys can wrestle the support base of these 2 giants then it can be written in the history books that twane derby has over taken the soweto otherwise as things stand...never will tswane overtake soweto. maybe in 50 years or so.

I am a chiefs fan but I believe credit should be given where due...this youngster Jali is the real deal he did what his seniors couldnot do I just wish he was more grown to feature on the next year's world cup but ke he is still growing. Overall the game didnot live to it expectations...

Digga&Py u can drum the Ðerby as much as u can to us but the fact of the matter is that the proof is on the field of play.We are blessed in Tshwane bcos we know that the goals, drama&entertainment are guaranteed on our Derby, while the SOWETO DERBY has just lost everything that it was before. The fans(you) don't get their money worth anymore, but only the Media people are making money out that Derby now. When u watch the Tshwane Derby is like watching Barcelona vs Real Madrid.Damn some Case Ya Chips Fans talk about the balls hitting the post, who cares about that, cos the fact of the matter is that ur team didn't win!!!

Digga, don't be stupid man, the Soweto derby is still Big in every respect except the field of play. All the things you've mentioned r outfield matters, what about infield?
