Sundowns stumble to defeat

Posted: 28 October 2009 Time: 22:23

Mamelodi Sundowns’ good run of form in the Absa Premiership was brought to an end, losing 2-0 to Platinum Stars at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Stars, thanks to goals from Tshepo Ramokala and Alton Meiring, secured a victory that moves them onto 12 points and will come as a major relief to coach Steve Komphela.

Stars created opportunities early in the game and they squandered a good one to open the scoring just after the half hour mark when Joseph Malongoane failed to punish the Sundowns defence as they failed to clear a dangerous ball in the penalty box.

Sundowns had their moments on the attack through the hard running Mabhuti Khenyeza and lethal Katlego Mphela but the Stars defence, that was marshalled by Mbulelo "OJ" Mabizela, had answers to all their questions.

The first goal came in the 65th minute when Ramokala scored with a shot from about 12-yards out after receiving the ball from Murakami on the right.

Just after the hour mark, play was stopped for a few minutes as Sundowns goalkeeper Brian Baloyi was given medical attention after colliding with a teammate but he was able to continue with the game but there was nothing more he could do as Meiring wrapped this game up with about 16 minutes left on the clock for this much needed victory.

Innocent Mdledle,Siyanda Xulu, Matthew Booth, Vuyo Mere, Luvhengo Mungomeni, Derrick Spencer, and Matthew Pattison - hayi surely our coach was not in any how thinking of winning this game.

Who was supposed to give Elias Pelembe, Mabhuti Khanyeza and Katlego Mphela those lovely balls the usually get from Nyandoro and Zothwane.

Mr Stoichkov we Downs family are not used to defending nothing the way you did, hope this was the last game you did that, otherwise ask your fellow coaches who came before you, the President doesn't think twice if he wants you out of his country, he just point a fingure and you're out Boss.

As bra J would say...were not going score even if we played for the next two days. Steve had a plan...keep Khanyeza under lock & key....it worked. All our players except Pelembe were just flat. Baloyi is just finished.U win some you loose sum.

I don't support the coach's defensive tactics. He employed the same strategy agains bucs and it wasn't pretty at all.
Otherwise, The Sky!

Never change a winning side. Where did the coach put Felix 'Feli-goal' Katongo after that superb display.
This is not healthy for a high paying team like Sundowwns. Look at what Man City is doing.
