SuperSport thump Pirates

Posted: 21 October 2009 Time: 21:36

Ten-man SuperSport United beat Orlando Pirates 3-0 in an Absa Premiership clash thanks to a Daine Klate brace and a goal by Dario Monteiro at Loftus Stadium on Wednesday night.

SuperSport had Tsietsi Mahoa sent off for a second bookable offence in the first half.

The Buccaneers, despite having the lion’s share of possession throughout the game, could not really create any decent goal scoring opportunities and consequently were punished by SuperSport in their forays forward.

Against the run of play SuperSport found themselves in the lead after some sloppy defending by Pirates. A cross came in from the right and the Buccaneers defence appeared to be sleeping as it found Klate unmarked at the back post. He fired a powerful shot that was deflected past Josephs, 1-0.

Pirates nearly hit back a minute before the break and were unlucky to see a Chenene shot rebound of the post. The Buccaneers winger picked the ball up on the counter-attack and let fly with a volley from just outside the box that beat the keeper but only succeeded in striking the upright.

But not all was lost for Pirates as SuperSport were reduced to ten men just before the half time break after Tsietsi Mahoa was shown his second yellow card for a professional foul.

Glen Salmon was left up front as the sole striker and what a job he did, especially in the 70th minute when he did brilliantly to hold up a long ball from the back before playing Siyabonga Nkosi into some space inside the 18-yard box. Lucky Lekgwathi consequently pulled him down and the referee did not hesitate to point to the penalty spot.

Klate then made it 2-0 for SuperSport with a superb finish from the spot in the 70th minute.

Pirates continued to press forward and were again hit on the counter attack in the 92nd minute. This time some clinical finishing by substitute Dario Monteiro rubbed salt into the wounds of the Sea Robbers, 3-0.

With the win SuperSport moved three points clear of Orlando Pirates and onto the top of the Absa Premiership.

how much does Mdluli (Gumbi) paying Krol, so that he could be in the starting line. Because everytime Kawendo is being rested, but Gumbi never gets tired.

I think the Santana disease is starting to affect the Orlando Pirates team. The ten men team beat a team of Orlando Pirates calibre 3-0, no thats ridiculous.Mr. KHOZA must start to concentrate on his team or else disaster is coming soon. Mark my words!!!

Very disappointing by Pirates. I can't believe we were beaten 3-0 by ten men. We need to start scoring more goals. None of our strikers are in form at the moment. in front of goal we are very wasteful. i still believe we will win the league this season but we need to be serious at start becoming more ruthless infront of goal.

What is similar between Pirates and Liverpool fans? Every beginning of the season they sing "this is our season".

With the one dimensional defensive coach that pirates has, its going to be very difficult for the league.

The guy has more than 50 players at his disposal but only has confidence in about 12 of them. This is killing the morale and the depth of the team as he doesnt know who to call if eg Teko is off form.
