Birds edge out Chiefs

Posted: 21 October 2009 Time: 22:11

Moroka Swallows get their second win on the trot against Kaizer Chiefs at Orlando Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Morgan Shivambu opened the scoring for Swallows on 17 minutes. Reneilwe Letsholonyane leveled matters for Chiefs soon after, before Lungisani Ndlela made it 2-1 in the second half.

This was Chiefs' fifth game at the newly renovated Orlando Stadium this season, and they have yet to register a win.

The pitch is in terrible condition; a worry considering the MTN8 Cup Final between Golden Arrows and Ajax Cape Town will be held there on Saturday.

Swallows started the game well, with Sibusiso Khumalo hitting the post in the eight minute, after a defence splitting pass from his captain Lefa Tsutsulupa.

And the South African Under-20 star turned provider for the Birds' opening goal, when Morgan Shivambu had the easy task of hitting home his cross.

Chiefs fought back with a scorching goal from Reneilwe Letsholonyane in the 26th minute that gave keeper Greg Etafia no chance.

But the Birds' Nigerian keeper came to the rescue a minute later, fisting another powerful Letsholonyane's shot from 25 metres over his crossbar.

Amakhosi went all out at the start of the second half, but left their shooting boots in the dressingroom.

Letsholonyane was put through by Tinashe Nengomasha in the 50th minute and, with only Etafia to beat, blasted his close-range shot over the crossbar.

Then Kaizer Motaung Jnr missed two chances within a minute. The first shot in the 57th minute was well saved by Etafia, but a minute later he missed a sitter.

Then Swallows lanky striker Lungisani Ndlela made it 2-1 when he connected substitute Ryan Botha's cross and volleyed home.

Botha was lucky to get away with a lunging two-footed tackle on defender Tshifiwa Mmbooi in the 66th minute, escaping with a talking to from referee Matthew Dyer.

Nhleko missed the sitter of the game in the 85th minute when he struck the crossbar from less than a metre from the goal-line, after a great cross from Letsholonyane, which about summed up the home team's night.

"Onocwaka", a.k.a Kaizer Cheaps have done it again, wow these guys can loose like it's nobody's business. but that what happens when you celebrate mediocrity. last week we said they were totally outclassed by downs only t be rescued by their Keeper, wht did they do? they attacked us, now look were they are.

Any self respecting team would've been ashamed at the way they played against Downs, but not the guys from NATULAWAYO, they just went on and on as if all was normal. The only way to change for the better it to accept that you're failing.

Downs is on the Up....!!!!

why the coach didnt start with Musona after he did so well against Sundowns? With these coach in still in the helm, lets just forget about winning league. He must do himself favour, beat Orlando Pirates back to back in the league and finish in the top 8, then your job will be safe, just like what krol did last season

Postmatch interview- VV. "Some chiefs players don't deserv to wear the chiefs jersey, they don't know the basic. I told my players not to play the offside trap but they keep on doing it. I think the stage at chiefs are just to big for some of our players. We'll have to come up with a plan, we have 28 players to choose from
". VV is not the 1st coach to say that our players lack the basics of football. Chiefs need a match winner, someone that can carry the team wen thing aint going your way. Former match winners at chiefs- Pule, stanton, scara, lebese, frank makua, ace, david modise etc. Chiefs always had a white player in the team, Marc, neil tovey and steve crowley etc. We need that white element.

John, u are spot on,

Some chiefs players are average and the is no ACE player and no leader at the back.

As for my team Pirates, eish i cant even type, 3 is just too much. Cant we swop Toreealba with Mthembu back to chiefs.

Wena Kroll, your Nja, make sure u win the game against Chiefs otherwise, jy moet Futstek.

Woo, I thought cheats fans were paranioa, now John's statement that cheats need white players, is the most stupid thing I have ever heard, John I don't blame you, you are a victim of condition, you still have syndroms of slavery, as a doctor I subcribe Torelba for your syndrom, you should feel better now... Defence, defence for how long must we complain abt this dept for a big team lyk Chiefs that should nt be the case.Since mushin outphased bo Cyril,
Fabian,Mayo we struggled.Last season we played Tau,Bashera,Tsotetsi,Quortey,(with Nahayo,
Rooi,Matle & Gilbert deputising).4 of those are no longer with the team, tau & matle have been relagated to the bench. The point is: this season we have a new back 5 in punch, mbooi, sweswe, isaacs and baartman where's consistency? At the pace we r going i see us going double figures in terms of games lost. The sooner we fix our defence the better coz offensively we are ok.Smax

Hey guys!!! What does "focus on your team mean"? I think somebody who says that should start first. But I do not see it instead that somebody keep telling us about Pretoria Soccer league. As I said yesterday well done to the teams that won and hardluck to those that lost. Its never lost, I think Pirates now understand what I and WE khosis mean when we say football is about winning or loosing. But hardluck, it will work next time. It is not that your team is weak or lack quality, it is just the nature of the game. Congratulations ones again guys. Hope you can keep it up.
