Santos pull one over Bucs

Santos ended Orlando Pirates’ unbeaten run in the 2009/10 Absa Premiership, with a 1-0 win at the Orlando Stadium on Saturday evening.

The People’s Team’s Erwin Isaacs scored the only goal of the game late in the first half, securing the visitors an impressive away win.

There was no goalmouth action to speak of in the first half hour of the game, as the two disciplined teams retained their shape and kept things tight at the back.

The players were frustrated by a lack of space in midfield and the rather poor state of the pitch – Orlando Stadium may be one of the country’s best football venues but it’s playing surface is certainly not conducive to the ‘beautiful game’ at present.

In the 32nd minute a defensive error from Santos saw Gert Schalkwyk send Thembinkosi Fanteni clean through on goal but the former Ajax Cape Town striker could only shoot straight at goalkeeper Tshepo Motsoeneng.

On 37 minutes Santos created a great opportunity, with Phikolethu Spelman played in with a wonderful pass, but the striker pulled his shot wide with only Moeneeb Josephs to beat.

However, seven minutes later Spelman provided an inch-perfect cross to pick out an unmarked Isaacs in the penalty area – and the Santos forward finished with aplomb to put the Cape side 1-0 up heading into half time.

Teko Modise nearly brought the Buccaneers level within the first minute of the second half, forcing Motsoeneng into another great save with a well-struck shot direct from a free-kick.

Substitute Bennett Chenene, Fanteni and Lucas Thwala were all unable to hit the target for Pirates, and the Soweto side needed Josephs to make a fantastic save to deny Graham King from making it 2-0 late in the game.

Anger is a very powerful emot ion. It rages through a person, creating a desire for revenge and for striking out at the object of anger.

Anger is an emotion that inspires action, and the action that it inspires is one of injury. The emotion of anger invokes within a person the very antithesis of mercy, compassion, self-restraint, and kindness.

@ sky...Chiefs fans are the most hated in the PSL. For a simple reason, they are young, money-makers, Vibey and Intelligent.

Chiefs was formed in 1970, which means that the bulk of Amakhosi fans are young and are the current Money spenders, the eldest Chiefs fan was born in 1970 and shouls be 39years old! Phew what a team of young supporters...

Now enter the 1937 Team supporters (they know themselves)...I rest my case...

Hey Kroll is the most confused coach in the PSL deputised by our Chiefs coach.Kroll complains of his international players who were tired but to my surprised he played them for full 90 minutes but substituted those who were not at internationl team.Anyway it has been clear on the last 4 games of Pierats that their donkey players with that donkey coach have reached their limit and that only losses and draws will be coming.Anyway we said from the start that they are natural pace setters and its about time they take their rightful place.Anyway let me start congratulate him for beginning to retain the second spot

Wat you mean teko is tired? I guess old age is already creeping in considering the fact that he played kak for bafana since the confed, guys like pa and masilela (top skewess during the confed) are stil playing in their teams and guess what, they're not tired. Krol That's a very stupid excuse, if He's tired then why play him? Is there someone else who can replace that king fool teko?

All blacks Pierats was beaten by Slimkat se mense!!! hehehehehehe, hahahahahaha, hehehehehe, hahahaha !!!! you want to know why Bafana is doing so badly ????? Pirates ! is your answer !

Henyekane knew what he was talking about when he said that mid-field does not supply balls, so where the hell is the goals supposed to come from ?

Our problem in this country is that we give these shibobo players big heads and they take that same attitude to the national team.

Gert should never have been substituted! that was your downfall, even in the game against Wits he made the difference but was substituted for useless Mashego, the chickens are really coming home to roost.

Quality players like Mongalo is not given a chance, why did you buy the boy to ruin his career ? look what Wits is doing with a young team, Myeni, Kadi, Morton, playing with an experienced mid-field maestro Haskins !!!!

Talk as much as you want, but fact remain, it was our 1st lose.

We are behind the coach 110% and we have a big squad comprises of quality players.

On the 31st of October, Chiefs will know what we mean by quality

Kaizer thiefs fans are so happy. But we dont panic at all. There is not team in the world that won the league without losing one game. We were just unlucky not to score. We had plenty of chances to even win the game. The most important thing is for the team to pick itself up and bounce back on Wednsday.

I am happy the coach played one defensive middlefield this time around. I think Krol saw the same thing that I see in Kamwendo. He is a lazy player. You will never see him defend or in the box to help strikers. I dont know what others are seeing in this player. For me and Krol is is too ordinary. Next game the coach must play Modise in that position and start with a real winger (Phenyo or Chenene). I am very happy with Gert.

Change Teko to whose position? Pirates fans are amusing. We said loosing games does not mean the team/s are weak, and you said Chiefs is the weakest team in the league and lacks quality. What now, they are going on to say we mind our team and leave them in peace, which peacce? You did not give us space to breath and you even wrote us in the Mvela league. What now? I think you need to say it to your team. Its too early to suggest you are winning everything. Now that you have lost everything should be treated as a past thing whereas you kept on reminding us that we are loosers. i'm a khosi but still maintains the league is far from over. Keep cool heads guys.

wIt was "why is the coach not using Kamwendo?" Now Kamwendo is lazy. "Why substitute Gert instead of Teko?". "Why not give Mongala and Chenene some game time?" If given game time and they are off form they are going to start saying they are not Pirates material. They have quality, why does it not deliver? Even if it was the second lose, it was a lose my brothers. Being the first one does not make it a win.
