Dladla wins it for Chiefs

Posted: 16 December 2009 Time: 21:33

Josta Dladla's injury time header ensured Kaizer Chiefs a 2-1 win over Ajax Cape Town at Loftus Versfeld on Wednesday evening.

Chiefs had taken an early lead through Thabang Rooi, but Diyo Sibisi’s goal just before the half-time break ensured an interesting second half.

Ajax keeper Hans Vonk had singlehandedly kept his team in the game, making no less than eight magnificent stops in the second half.

Amakhosi struck early on – David Mathebula raced onto a quickly-taken free-kick and sent in a cross to the far post where Rooi came sliding in to bundle the ball over the line in the eighth minute.

Chiefs could have extended their lead in the 22nd minute when Zhaimu Jambo played a floated ball to set up Siphiwe Tshabalala, who managed to defy the Ajax offside trap, but Vonk came out tops in a one-on-one situation.

As the loose ball bobbled around, Ajax defender Derek Decamps managed to block Nkosinathi Nhleko’s powerful shot.

Soon afterwards Chiefs were on the attack again; on this occasion Hans Vonk was forced into tipping Abia Nale’s drive at around for a corner-kick.

Vonk was forced into two more saves from Nhleko in the 35th minute. Four minutes later he got a hand to the Chiefs striker’s close-range shot at goal. His defence failed to clear the danger and Nale came sliding in, but his effort was deflected onto the crossbar.

But then Ajax got an unlikely equaliser. George Maluleka swung the ball perfectly for Nathan Paulse, who rose up and headed downwards. Itumeleng Khune could only block the ball, which fell to Sibisi to fire home.

Vonk was Ajax’s saviour in the second half and was at his best again when Mandla Masango tested him with a shot on the turn from the edge of the penalty area in the 72nd minute, which saw the veteran keeper dive backwards to push it out for a corner.

Then in the 75th minute he again came up trumps: first up he made a full-length dive to get a hand to Dladla’s shot, before getting to his feet quickly to block Nale’s blast towards goal.

With Chiefs fans streaming out of the Loftus Stadium, the Amakhosi gave them reason to come streaming back in as they scored an injury-time winner.

Ajax were unable to clear a corner and the ball eventually came to Wayne Matle, whose floated cross was headed past Vonk by Dladla.

I was gently asked by the lady of the house to refrain from using kickoff during our special holidays. But I guess this is a battle she will never win. KC rocks big time. I can't help it. Keeping quiet on such a great display is simply not ayoba.

KC will thump Sundowns like there is no Mphela. Our young guns are jelling. we will be unstopable on saturday. The burly Nhleko will keep the downs pretenders a run for their money for the likes of yeye and torrealba to finish. believe it or not, torrealba is on the rise. just like mphela was once forgotten, he will rise again. I'm just happy we r doing justice to the new jersey

Some idiots keep saying our player (Yeye) is ugly.

I would appreciate your response on these players

Daniel Mudau was the ugliest player in the 90s and now he's the ugliest spaza shop owner at Domkop.

How's Nyandoro? = ugliest in the camp, i saw him the other day at Hi-Fi Corp.....Any similarity between him and a human is purely coincidental!

We all know that Yeye does not have a human face and you know that for sure. Playing for chiefs does not make one beautiful. He's a great player and we all know that but he's the world ugliest man and we all know that.

Fan are people to boo and cheer their own team and even their opposition, I understand that. At this stage of the season, our league just got interesting and its good for the soccer loving people, not for thieves, sunflower or any other team. I was getting worried to see SSU, who play dull soccer running away unchallanged, now that other teams are playing and winning, I'm every happy. So, Makhosikazi amahle stop hating Sundowns and vv (virsa versa) excuse my spelling, I'm African, u idiots...

My kids call this guy "Nono" so what will you say if you were on my shoes Pearl?
