Dladla wins it for Chiefs

Posted: 16 December 2009 Time: 21:33

Josta Dladla's injury time header ensured Kaizer Chiefs a 2-1 win over Ajax Cape Town at Loftus Versfeld on Wednesday evening.

Chiefs had taken an early lead through Thabang Rooi, but Diyo Sibisi’s goal just before the half-time break ensured an interesting second half.

Ajax keeper Hans Vonk had singlehandedly kept his team in the game, making no less than eight magnificent stops in the second half.

Amakhosi struck early on – David Mathebula raced onto a quickly-taken free-kick and sent in a cross to the far post where Rooi came sliding in to bundle the ball over the line in the eighth minute.

Chiefs could have extended their lead in the 22nd minute when Zhaimu Jambo played a floated ball to set up Siphiwe Tshabalala, who managed to defy the Ajax offside trap, but Vonk came out tops in a one-on-one situation.

As the loose ball bobbled around, Ajax defender Derek Decamps managed to block Nkosinathi Nhleko’s powerful shot.

Soon afterwards Chiefs were on the attack again; on this occasion Hans Vonk was forced into tipping Abia Nale’s drive at around for a corner-kick.

Vonk was forced into two more saves from Nhleko in the 35th minute. Four minutes later he got a hand to the Chiefs striker’s close-range shot at goal. His defence failed to clear the danger and Nale came sliding in, but his effort was deflected onto the crossbar.

But then Ajax got an unlikely equaliser. George Maluleka swung the ball perfectly for Nathan Paulse, who rose up and headed downwards. Itumeleng Khune could only block the ball, which fell to Sibisi to fire home.

Vonk was Ajax’s saviour in the second half and was at his best again when Mandla Masango tested him with a shot on the turn from the edge of the penalty area in the 72nd minute, which saw the veteran keeper dive backwards to push it out for a corner.

Then in the 75th minute he again came up trumps: first up he made a full-length dive to get a hand to Dladla’s shot, before getting to his feet quickly to block Nale’s blast towards goal.

With Chiefs fans streaming out of the Loftus Stadium, the Amakhosi gave them reason to come streaming back in as they scored an injury-time winner.

Ajax were unable to clear a corner and the ball eventually came to Wayne Matle, whose floated cross was headed past Vonk by Dladla.

Well done Khosi. The big teams must always prove that they are big (cant say the same about my Bucs though. Im really disappointed at my team. Sis).

As for gunning for the league, mnhhh.... Only in SA that a team can sleep for the whole of first round and end up challenging for the championship. It just proves the low standard of our league. SSU would have deserved it although I sense they will be history in a decade's time when some wealthy foreign dude takes over Multichoice (S/sport channel) and renames it.

Bucs by birth.

Mash whatever your name is, Please no name calling or foul language I'm just stating the facts have you looked at the log. You have tough matches ahead, there is still the derby and do not think you will walk over Pirates, we can really spoil the party for Chiefs.

What a relief, Comforting indeed, however we are not yet as clinical as we should be. We missed Motaung Junior on the night. some of the chances he could converted them. Yes, lets take a game at a time, lets not take Sundowns lithgly, we need to prepare our defence, it can be cought napping. They sometimes loose concerntration, Pls coach work on that is it is our biggest problem.

We need to press sundowns on the wings, and Dladla need not drop deep. He need to play right behing the main stricker. lets' have YEYE back for this game, and start Mathebula from the bench. That's me.

Point of correction you are fighting tooth and nail to finish above Bucs, if you dont believe me look at the comments of your fellow Chiefs fans after every result. Bra you lost the League last Sartuday when you drew with Celtic, live with that reality. Done..

NDUNA, I dont understand you but let me tell you....chiefs are collecting points regardless of how other teams perform. By the looks of things...all teams at 38 points are still challenging for the league

Sundowns have games in hand, yes, but those are not points....so please stop your jealousy and admit....CHIEFS ARE IS ON FIRES AND WE LOVE THAT

Pirates have lost their it somehow due to some injuries maybe but thats the shit about pirates....signing quantity not quality

WHAT IS QUALITY?????.......go to Naturena....and you will find your answer there

WHICH PLAYER AT CHIEFS...WHEN GIVEN A CHANCE AND HE DOES NOT DELIVER??????

NONE

its sad to see Supporters pouring their heart 2 such an average team that cannot do the basic right

1st -no consistency in this club

2nd -no ambition and dreams because we have had contradictory statements from both coach and players

coach initially said the leauge is not their goal and he is not challenging it

then of the ugliest football player in the world Letsoganyane wins two games and he says their challenging 4 the tittle

then idiots like Thabang, Pearl, Sbusiso and Lil witchy starts screaming her on the forum with no direction

this club is for a hiding come Saturday

cant wait
