Valuable win for Chiefs

Posted: 15 September 2009 Time: 21:30

Siphiwe Tshabalala's retaken penalty is enough to give Kaizer Chiefs a precious 1-0 win over Platinum Stars

It was all Platinum Stars in the first half as Chiefs failed to test Wayne Sandilands at all.

Stars had their chances and really should have been two or three goals up at the break.

Almiro Lobo hit the crossbar in a fantastic move involving Alton Meiring and Tsepo Ramokala.

Lobo missed another good chance and Meiring forced two saves out of Arthur Bartman.

Then against the run of play Chiefs scored the opener.

Tshabalala won himself a penalty when he took cleverly on George Mofokeng inside the area, and the big defender made a clumsy challenge.

'Shabba' scored, but had to retake his spot kick and scored again, going the same way as his first strike.

But just before the penalty, Steve Komphela felt that Tshabalala had fouled Stanley Kgatla on route to the penalty area.

A furious Steve Komphela continued to complain and got himself into further trouble with the referee and got sent off for abusing Matthew Dyer.

Substitute Nkosinathi Nhleko came on and helped Chiefs keep the pressure on Stars late in the game.

Tshabalala should have scored a second. But in a one on one situation with Sandilands he takes too long to execute his shot and instead his weak attempt is thwarted.

Yaa ne, nxa; who's next to spill crap? This is all we needed to create a winning atmosphere and build confidence. Team not really to its best but YEYE is tops. The picture will finally complete when JD and Nale return. 3 points in the bag, who care who says what?

Referees sometimes they do have an influence on the outcome of the game. A clear foul on Stars player that was supposed to be judged by Mr. Dyer that resulted to Chiefs break that caused a penalty. Gavin Hunt was right our referees are ridiculous!!!!!!!!!! Anyway HARD LUCK 2 Stars and Good Luck 2 Kaizer Thieves!!!!!!!!!!

I repeat, CHIEFS are down but not out. Some teams wont be as lucky as the likes of Santos (draw), SSU (win), Wits (win) & Maritzburg (win).

This team is going to come back, the signs are there.

Zipho, i agree my friend; that looked like a foul on KGATLA, but as usual and as was the case with 95% of the PSL game played since the start of the season, the Ref saw nothing wrong. SA Refereing is more that pathetic.

But why some people want to justify chiefs win as if we did not deserve to win...screw you guys, we are happy that our team won and there's nothing you can do about it.

Since the beginning of the season things are not going well at Naturena, Why chiefs should get penalties to win or draw matches this season? On the weekend they lost against Maritzburg United because referee didn't buy their story and fail to give them penalty. Komphela don't worry, Kaizer's Thieves are going nowhere as long as they depend on penalties.

Ok just cos chiefs was awarded a penalty just after that so called foul on Kgatla then you chiefs haters has something to say against us, shame on you guys...we dont care, we won and we are happy

We might have not played well last night, I think its cos the guys did not want to conside a goal as it is difficult to come back from a those teams that celebrate the whole season when they beat chiefs.

Penalties are part of the game and if a player is fouled in the box and the ref. has seen that clearly then the pelnalty will be awarded

For you to refer to the previous game is totally bull and tell us why will we want a penalty where it was not neccessary?????? I know its still morning but please stop your crap man

Sbuda, i think that would be a good approach; the guys make sure that we dont concede becuase those chiefs-wanna-bes score and defend for 90 minutes.

They say a win is a win regardless of how it happened, what matters is the 3 points after 90 minutes. Well done Chiefs.

I see that the "Referee Disbursement Fund" is up and running. Good work Dr. Bobby. Also for convincing Torrealba to take a 30% salary cut for the good of the team. Hahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PSL refeeres should be tested for drugs....how on earth can a sober refeere give an advantage to a team 'that has committed a clear deliberate foul' right infront of him. Our football is becoming a circus, really or are they on payrolls of other teams ?

Yes,Chiefs were not convincing but why was the penalty retaken,if the keeper moved from his line before the kick wasn't the referee suppose to give advantage? After the goal every decision went against chiefs...poor refereeing
