Thanda defeat Pirates

Posted: 22 March 2008 Time: 17:48

Thanda Royal Zulu defeated Orlando Pirates 2-1 in an Absa Premiership match at the Absa Stadium in Durban on Saturday afternoon, boosting their hopes of retaining their top-flight status and critically damaging the Buccaneers' hopes of winning the title.

Amabhubesi scored through defender Ahmed Mohammed and striker Bernard Parker, while Pirates pulled one back late on through lively winger Bennett Chenene.

Pirates' Francis Chansa was certainly the busier of the two goalkeepers in the first half, making some good saves to keep his team on level pegging with the hosts.

In the sixth minute the DR Congo keeper palmed away Ryan Botha's header and a quarter of an hour later he tipped Parker's 20-yard drive around the post for a corner kick.

Just past the half-hour mark Pirates threw away a good chance to break the deadlock, with Paulus Masehe shooting wide from close range after Mandlenkosi Tswenga had parried Teko Modise's free-kick.

The match was goalless at halftime.

Thanda went a goal up in the 49th minute, as Mohammed got on the end of a set-piece and headed the opener.

The hosts almost added a second just over 10 minutes later when Chenene had to clear Botha's corner off his own goal line.

In the 77th minute Amabhubesi did manage to double their advantage, as Parker got on the end of another fine corner-kick from Botha and headed his team into a 2-0 lead.

It didn't last long though, as Chenene scored with a low shot some three minutes after Parker's goal to halve the deficit.

Thanda remain in 14th place, but they are now six and nine points clear of Jomo Cosmos and Black Leopards respectively. Pirates remain in third on 35 points but their hopes of winning the title are fading fast.

Congratulations to Thanda Royal Zulu,Pirates looked very lost at the back in the last 30 minutes,Thanda kept a close eye on Walaza and only remember one chance he got which was a rebound, it was not meant to be Bhakaniya's day!next time!

dont Blame SANTOS for this blame pie rats and supporters and coach and everything that have been said about how pirates are gona close the gap at the top..sometyms things should be rewritten..pirates are tired and dont have direction wheather t play for a win or to play intertaining ball...by the way y'all know they always win ball possion..SAFA for their sake (pirates) make it a go that winning posintion earn a point and i am sure pirates will dominate that category 100%

Who said ball possession win games for a team? ODG said last week the boys were brilliant, this week he blames Tshabalala, Cashibe and Chabalala. Who is he going to blame for his next failure? I hope its not Khoza cause he will be fired on the spot with the "K" word. I wish to hear Khoza's address to his team on Tuesday, Is he going to say tey played like k@##@r?

I've come to realize the current Bucs squad is overrated, it's almost become predictable that they'll always fail to deliver when it matters most, i'm not complaining cause this means my boys from Naturena stand a good chance of walking all over them, come derby time, well done to TRZ, they played well!!!!!!!

On a different note, the SABC was at it again this afternoon, instead of televising a live game between Wits and Arrows they choose to show us a Cosmos/Arrows game that played some weeks ago, do these guys ever stop??????

We always tell Pirates supporters to keep quite and see how their team is doing. But they keep on saying, " we are going to win this we are going to win this". You have already won every cup by talking but u'r players proved u wrong... But eish sorry ne. It's funny u'r team can draw on even beat teams which some are even on top eight but get beaten by Thanda. Aowa Pirates, ijo. U e e!

It has been said Sun-flower will beat Chiefs in the Nedbank, with the 4-6-0 system I doubt they'll manage a single shot at goal for the entire match. We boost the best defensive pair of Mccathy/Tsotetsi & in mid-field Tinashe will be back to out play all six Downs players combined.

In SA we have Pie-rats supporters who talks too much for nothing & their team who plays so much for nothing. Then there are Sun-flower supporters who always boost about Motsepe's money & their team/players who have achieved nothing in SA soccer history except for being drunkards. And intelligent Chiefs supporers who knows how to associate themselves with the best team in Africa & their team that has written anything about SA football history.
