Bay United stun Pirates

Posted: 28 September 2008 Time: 17:40

Bay United have shocked Orlando Pirates with a 2-0 victory over the Buccaneers in an Absa Premiership clash at the EPRU Stadium on Sunday.

With only a point in the kitty after two matches, it looks like a Herculean task for the struggling yet talented Pirates this season.

Such a pathetic display despite having a coach with massive experience has clearly sent a message to other PSL teams that Pirates are no longer the invincible force they used to be.

For United, this was a good day at the office as they followed instructions diligently in their attempt to eliminate their one season-wonder label.

United started with an array of experienced campaigners led by veteran Patrick Mayo who did a sterling job in protecting well traveled Arthur Bartman in goal.

The hosts were never intimidated by their more fancied opponents, as they thwarted Pirates' moves with ease. And when they forced Pirates 'keeper

Moeneeb Josephs to make a save as early as the ninth minute, United showed what a determined side they were.

Just five minutes before the interval, Bucs had to do some desperate defending as United applied the pressure relentlessly.

Sensing danger, Pirates' under-fire coach Rudi Krol was forced to replace winger Joseph Makhanya with newly-signed Dikgang Mabalane, but his

introduction did nothing to worry the fearless United side with Gareth Ncaca calling the shots from the centre of the park.

And when Nigerian striker Adebayo Abayomi turned to beat the hapless Josephs four minutes after the break, Krol knew that he needed something special to break the robust United defence, which was growing in confidence.

Even a free kick from reliable Pirates schemer Teko Modise in the 54th minute could do nothing to help the sinking ship.

In attempt to close shop, United introduced former Kaizer Chiefs captain Cyril Nzama, and Luntu Mazana added a stunning second, giving United every reason to celebrate their first win since gaining promotion.

Thapedi, this is not a place to write assey's. Keep it short and simple or else n o one will read your comment.

Back to soccer, this coach must definetly go hes brain damaged. How does he justify his starting eleven. Some advise for this man (krol), Teko will never be a better player than Kanono not in the near future and definalty not in a million years. Kanono has more than 10 years expirience in the PSL where as Teko has less than 5 years. It's true Teko is overrated and an under achiever, period.

When I watched Pirates in our first pre-season match I said the coach must go.My friends said we should give the coach a chance.I was looking on his style then I knew that once again we hired a wrong person.Look he keeps playing Mhlongo and Seema who are the weakest link at the back.Playing Mkhwanazi ahead of Mothibantwa not a brave idea at all.Up front playing the Walazas and Ramudzuli is the disaster itself.Ramudzuli can score anymore.I thought they will loan him somewhere to get his confidence back.As for Walaza he needs to be benched. What happened to the young boy who was a top goal scorer in the lower divisions Reason and Thabo Moloi?Praises for the young star Oupa Manyisa.I disagree with those saying Teko is overrated. He is an excellent player but I think there has been too much work on his shoulders.I thought they will compete with Kanono who hasn't find his rythem at all.Mr Khoza look for the coach who will make the guys to scoreAnyway it's good that these things happen now so that we can look somewhere for the coach.

Hayi bo guys whats up with these very loooooooooooong essays? they are even much longer than the article itself. Maybe they only show that it will take a very looooooooooooong time before Pirates wins something. Pirates didn't play that bad but Bay united were spot on in braking any dangerous movement from the Bucarnees.

I hope Mr. Krol is not still continuing with his pre season - trying the good combination kind of excuses

have been singing the song that everything at pirates is wrong and now ppl can see, Theko is a ok for one season, he should have been sold, Benson, not a material 4 pirates, Mdledle use too much power, that is a downfall to his game, Walaza's career just started i am sorry to anounce that it's finished, josephs cosmos material so is senzo, seema, is there no old age home around Doorenfontein? Oupa and Mkhwanazi still don't believe they are playing for pirates-dreamland, it's time they wake or go, Adriano, will see.... this is almost everyone who played over the weekend, just think of it, the coach and management must work hard to find solutions to this problems before pirate go where cosmos is, like son like father...

Guys Bay United is not just a team with inexperienced guys. Bay United is just a name of the club, but most of these guys have been around: Zakazaka, Ncaca, Mayo and the goal keeper. look even Nzama the most experienced player, he was even in the world cup, but he was sitting in the bench. It shows that these guys know their business. If i'm not mistaken i think Songwiqi was playing for Bushbucks before. Watch out for these teams.
