SuperSport United striker Mame Niang scored an extra-time winner to send his former club University of Pretoria crashing out of the Nedbank Cup on Saturday night.
Niang converted a Benett Chenene cross in the 106th minute after regulation time failed to produce a goal at Tuks Stadium.
The victory secures Matsatsantsa’s place in the last-16 while Tuks fail to progress past the first round for the second season in succession. They were knocked out by Maritzburg United at the same stage last year.
SuperSport started the game the brighter of the two sides, controlling possession and looking the more threatening in attack.
It was the home side though who created the first clear cut opportunity of the encounter and looked to have found the lead in the 20th minute through Geofrey Massa.
The Ugandan out jumped Bevan Fransman before planting his header in the back of the net but his effort was chalked off for offside.
AmaTuks looked the better of the two sides as the half grew to an end. First, Mpho Matsi forced Rowen Williams into a smart save on the half-hour mark before Thabo Mnyamane directed his effort just over the young goalkeeper's crossbar.
Matsatsantsa had a chance to open the scoring through De Oliveira within minutes of the second half. The forward found himself through on goal but Washington Arubi was quick off his line to deny the Angolan.
Williams somehow denied Massa what could have been the winner in the 77th minute. A swift counter-attack ended when the Uganda could not find a way past Williams from point blank range.
The game looked destined to be decided from the penalty spot until Niang rose to nod home late into the contest.
