Amajita beat Seychelles in 2013 Cosafa Cup

Posted: 4 December 2013 Time: 16:27

South Africa made a winning start to their Group C campaign at the 2013 Cosafa Under-20 Youth Championships with a 4-0 victory over Seychelles in Mafeteng on Wednesday.

The win was not unexpected, as the island nation are expected to be the whipping boys in Amajita’s pool, which also contains Zambia and Namibia.

Played on a difficult surface, Amajita battled with their rhythm at times but goals from Siyanda Ngubo (two), Ayabulela Magqwaka and Nhlakanipho Ntuli made for a comfortable win.

Orlando Pirates youngster Ngubo got the ball rolling with a lovely finish beyond Dawind Rosette, having been sent one-on-one with the keeper on 13 minutes.

It was 2-0 just past the midway point of the first half when Rosette failed to collect the ball in his penalty area and Ajax Cape Town youngster Magqwaka turned the ball home into an empty net.

The second half was more of the same one-way traffic as Ngubo added his second shortly after the break and Ntuli supplied an excellent finish to complete the scoring late on.

Amajita allowed Seychelles just one shot on goal in the entire game, monopolising possession as well in what was a commanding performance from the side.

Next up though are group favourites Zambia on Saturday, a team who have won the last three Cosafa Under-20 Youth Championships, played between 2009 and 2011.

It is a potential pool decider with just the top side in each group advancing to the semi-finals.

can we get these boys to play with tougher opponents at this young age. we only see them playing the COSAFA tournaments, and the next thing they dont even qualify for any CAF or FIFA youth tournaments. i think thats where we are messing up our young talent. players like Benni, Sheppered, Buckley, Fortune, Nomvethe, Mokoena, Jali, Claasen, Mphahlele, Keet, Khune, etc matured at a very young age because they have been involved in the CAF and FIFA youth tournaments, playing with tough opponents. Nigeria, etc have very strong senior teams because their boys get tested at a very young age. we must make sure that these boy go to the olympics, CAF youth championships, FIFA youth championships, etc, then the future will be brighter for Bafana

I can't even be proud of this coz I know this is possibly the last we hear about these boys. For a soccer loving nation we really don't care about our youngsters. Much like the win against Spain, the next competitive fixture we'll be involved in most of the players that contributed in the Spain match won't even feature.

Well done boys. Keep it up. ITs not gonna get easier from here on. Happy for Ntuli after being sidelined by my team Bucs. Oh, Bucs players got 3 of the 4 goals - typical result from Prof Palacios, like it or not.

Viva Mzansi football!!
