AmaZulu, Free State Stars draw

Posted: 9 December 2007 Time: 18:01

AmaZulu and Free State Stars played to a 1-1 draw in an Absa Premier League fixture at the Princess Magogo Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Duncan Lechesa handed Ea Lla Koto a first half lead before Siyabonga Mkhwanazi leveled matters midway through the second half.

The visitors enjoyed the better of the opening exchanges, with striker Jimmy Kauleza shooting over from inside the area in the sixth minute.

Sifiso Vilakazi also wasted a good chance to hand Stars the lead three minutes later when he shot wide from inside the area.

The hosts were awarded a dubious penalty in the 15th minute when Stars’ keeper Kennedy Mweene was adjudged to have fouled Dumisani Ngwenya inside the area, but justice prevailed when Mweene tipped John Moshoeu’s spot-kick onto the post and the danger was cleared.

Ea Lla Koto took the lead in the 32nd minute when skipper Lechesa headed home after Matome Madimabe headed James Matola’s cross back across the face of goal.

The score remained 1-0 at the break.

Free State Stars continued pushing forward in the second half, with Kauleza sending a header over the crossbar in the opening minutes.

Kauleza sent another shot over the bar in the 65th minute, and the visitors were made to rue their wastefulness in front of goal in the 72nd minute when substitute Mkhwanazi scored with a low shot from inside the area following a good pass by Thabo Mabaso.

Both sides pushed forward in search of an equaliser, but it was not to be, with a draw the fair result on the day.

I wonder what is going on with Barker & Faya. Are they suppose to have different strategy for each game. What was Shoes doing in the field of play for such a long time. F. Stars are a speedy outfit with youngsters and they field Shoes as a forward. Where is Litha Ngxabi Barker?

AmaZulu were lucky to come out with a draw from this match. Mr.Clive Barker continued to use Shoes for a striker despite the fact that the club has a number of up- and- comming strikers who are eager to make a name for themselves.Mr. Barker's obsession with the so-called tried and tested players continues to push the club deeper into the relegation zone.Siyabonga Mkhwanazi who did well for the club during their stint at Mvela league scored a fantastic goal although he was brought in late.We hope AmaZulu management will take note of the sad reality that Mr. Clive Barker is past it now and they should find a coach as a matter of urgency. We still feel that AmaZulu are armed with a number of good players who can see them through the current season and beyond, provided they are given a chance.
