Cosmos are relegated

Posted: 14 May 2008 Time: 17:41

Jomo Cosmos have been relegated to the National First Division following their 2-0 loss to Black Leopards at the Orkney Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.

Coupled with Thanda Royal Zulu FC’s 3-2 win over BidVest Wits, Ezenkosi are now four points adrift of second-bottom Leopards.

Myron Shongwe and Thabiso Hlalele scored for Lidoda Duvha, while Ezenkosi also saw striker Nkosinathi Nhleko red carded in the first half.

Leopards made the brighter start to the match and deservedly went ahead in the 18th minute when Shongwe scored with a diving header after David Makgale’s shot came back off the crossbar.

Reneilwe Letsholonyane looked the most enterprising of the Cosmos players, but unfortunately his teammates seemed to lack his urgency.

Cosmos were reduced to 10 men in the 41st minute when Nhleko received his marching orders following two consecutive studs-up tackles within seconds of each other.

The Ezenkosi received another setback seconds before the break when they found themselves two goals down after Hlalele scored with a low shot following a pass by Shongwe.

The score remained 2-0 at the break.

Although the hosts pushed men forward, Leopards held on for a crucial win that will see them avoid the automatic drop.

However, Lidoda Duvha could still have to fight to stay in the PSL via the National play-offs as they face Kaizer Chiefs in their final game of the season, while Cosmos take on Thanda Royal Zulu FC on Sunday.

Should Leopards beat Chiefs and Cosmos see off Amabhubesi, Leopards will remain in the Premiership, with Thanda going into the play-offs, along with three First Division teams.

This is a very sad day for South African football. This team should be up there with the best. However, pride the destroyer got the better of Mjomane, ntukulu wa Ntsanwisi. Jomo is to blame for taking the team down for the second time around. Look at his management, because he doesnt like to pay. Now he will be swearing in radio stations and blaming referees and the high hierarchy for his failure. Come on Matsilela.

Painful to see such a great institution going down, hopefull they'll bounce back straight away. it may also be time for Jomo to adapt to a new style of management. now Comitis and Motsepe will be alone with the mafias!

Bye bye poor Jomo Cosmos. It was just a matter of time.
Next up is Leopards who I predict will not survive the play offs.
The reality is that Cosmos played the worst football this season and even thou the writing was arleady on the wall, poor Jomo never accepted the unfolding tale.
Worst of all, his own tactics were the ones wanting and it was something that he could not ever admit. How could 'the bafana bafana saviour' fail in the PSL, never. So he was all along trying to justfy his ego while the team's standards continued to falter.
Come on, I have said it before that football evolves and so your yester years of playing experience may not help you now.
Anyway the story continues, below NFD you find Vodacom League.
I have coached in the NFD this past season and I know that reputations alone will not help much.
Mark my words.

Jomo is the mastermind behind his own downfall. He saw the warning signs and ignored them. We are not soccer experts, but we gave our unqualified advices. Now you are on your own.
