Bidvest Wits beat Bloemfontein Celtic in the MTN8 Cup

Posted: 9 August 2013 Time: 19:54

Two quick goals from Sibusiso Vilakazi and Gatenah Kedebe were enough for Bidvest Wits to send Bloemfontein Celtic crashing out of the 2013 MTN8 quarterfinals before Papy Faty’s knockout blow at the end of the match to make it 3-0.

The game got off to a dynamic start with Wits forcing Celtic to spend time in their own half defending, but it wasn’t long before the away side found their rhythm.

On the 13th minute Faty thought he had scored for Wits only for the match official to disallow the goal after spotting an infringement in the box.

However it wasn’t long before Wits broke the deadlock. On the 21st minute, Wolff struck a shot from distance and when Celtic goalkeeper Patrick Tignyemb thought he had saved it, Vilakazi followed with a rebounded volley to make it 1-0.

The Clever Boys were growing in confidence and two minutes later they struck again when Kedebe received a ball inside box and calmly slotted past Tignyemb after a beautiful build up.

With Celtic giving the home side the space to attack, Wits forward Ryan Chapman almost made it 3-0 around the half hour mark when he was allowed to turn and shoot inside the box.

Just before half time Musa Nyatama wasted a glorious opportunity to pull his team back into the game. With only the keeper to beat inside the box, the 25 year old pulled his attempt wide.

A minute later a disorganised Celtic found themselves clearing Chapman’s attempt off the line.

Clinton Larsen’s side looked rejuvenated at the start of the second half with Vuyani Ntanga almost finding a goal, but the home side managed to weather the storm.

Right on the hour mark, the home side were reduced to ten men when Keamogetse Wolff was sent off for a second bookable offence. That did not dampen the Clever Boys’ spirit as they continued to attack.

Despite Phunya Sele Sele enjoying more ball possession after Wolff’s red card, nothing really materialised.

With Celtic pushing forward in search of a goal, Wits broke out and Faty delivered the knockout blow in the 92nd minute as he rounded Tignyemb to make it 3-0.

If Celtic coach lost to the Biggest club in Mzansi , offcourse I mean Chiefs the double Champs , he would have claimed the ref this ,the Ref that .Even if he lost against that club that beat Ahl Hungry of Egypt or the other one that dresses like the ZCC of Moria , Celtic Coach would have claimed the ref robbed them , babalayile and im saying this because he annoyed me when the ref made stupid decisions against Siwelele last week and the next thing he pulled Chiefs and the Other two into his nonsense . These three clubs always bliksem him ,he knows that

Congratulations to Wits. You deserve to be in the semis. Semi finals teams are Wits, Amatuks, Suppersport and Platinun Stars. The final is between Suppersport and Wits, therefore the MTN8 winner is Wits.

Getaneh Kebede scored? That's nice, but we'll have to makes sure that the other Ethiopian (Lemessa) doesn't score tomorrow.

Why not moan abt the referee 2night? Or ur waiting 2 be bliksemed by us nd the Rats 2 unleash another tirade? U will get more 3X3 as long as u focus on the referees instead of improving ur frail team.

I miss the general himself at Kaizer Chiefs,Tinashe Washington Nengomasha.

I still don't understand why we let him go.Katsande did well last season, but the fact is lately he has been unconvincing for me.I don't like the way he applies himself on the field, making unnecessary tackles resulting in fouls
