PSL Match Report: Golden Arrows 1-3 Orlando Pirates

Posted: 10 May 2014 Time: 15:56

Orlando Pirates came from a goal behind to beat Golden Arrows 3-1 in their last League match of the season at Moses Mabhida Stadium.

Bongi Ntuli gave Bucs an early scare as he capitalised on Rooi Mahamutsa’s defensive mistake to give Arrows the lead in the fifth minute of the game.

But goals from Kermit Erasmus, Sifiso Myeni and Mpho Makola were enough to secure Bucs a top-four finish.

Pirates dominated possession but their final pass let them down once again.

Frustrations started to show as Oupa Manyisa had already tried three attempts from range inside the opening 20 minutes but neither could find target or trouble Bartman.

Bucs’ first effort on target came in the 26th minute when Erasmus forced Bartman to dive low to his left.

Erasmus managed to pull a goal back in the 30th minute after he teamed up with Daine Klate for Bucs’ equaliser.

Klate was once again in the thick of things as his fierce effort forced Bartman to a fantastic save for a corner. The resultant corner saw Mahamutsa rise high, only to send his header over the bar.

In the second half, Bucs showed some menace in their build-up play and attack and it wasn’t long before they took the lead.

A nice interchange of passes saw Myeni net Bucs’ second after receiving a well weighed pass from Mpho Makola in the 50th minute.

Makola could have double the lead in the 73rd minute but his poor decision let him down.

He did, however, make amends in the 75th minute as he collected a pass from Erasmus to calmly slot home Bucs’ third and cap off his man-of-the-match performance with a goal in the 75th minute.

Senzo Meyiwa denied Ntuli his second of the game with a heroic penalty save in the 78th minute.

To @goldenarrowsfc1, you have been a big part of the fabric of the PSL & it will be sad to see you go. We wish you everything of the best.

Is there a goal keeper who has saved more penalties than Senzo this season?

Should we go to penalties vs Wits Im expecting a tough contested shootout with Senzo and Moeneeb for both sides

Mpho Makola is my most improved player of the seazon for Pirates

Matlaba player of the Season

Senzo goalkeeper of the seazon

Top goalscorer Lennox Bacela...this is one of the bad seazon we had at Bucs hoping that we rob the Bank

I urge these players to stay calm and not loose concentration, throw frustrations away when play vs Wits I urge them not to think about past failures coz that might demorilise their plan and make unnecessary mistakes...I love Bucs no matter what

How Manyisa is not nominated for player of the season is beyond comprehension, only in SA. Where journalists are so hateful of Bucs that they look thru them. Jealousy beyond belief. Zebras have a back door entrance to the CAF yet no Pirates player has even been considered, crazy

Goal keeper nomination is based on PSL matches not CAF matches . CAF has its own nominations. It is very clear to every1 that Pirates was a flop this season and who was conceding those goals???

Wavhudi  Pirates was a flop in the PSL and Chiefs was what exactly. Only tried to compete in the league just like polokwane city and amazulu. While MTN8 and Telkom are NFD, as per your inference.

1st congratulations to KBY, it has been such a quiet 2weeks.

Congrats to Bhakajuju for the performance, it should hav been 5-1 if we were not playful in front of goals. If we r to win next week n next sezn, our defence must really shape up. This has been one of the worst sezns defensively compounded also by a drought in goals.

"Wits had a brilliant season", "Kaiser Chiefs had a briliant season" these are famous quotes from SA journalists. "Pirates had a very disappointing season", having made all the finals they can compete in. That shows how low other teams standards really are.
