Premier Soccer League report Ajax Cape Town edge Bloemfontein Celtic

Posted: 18 December 2013 Time: 18:45

Ajax Cape Town fought back from a goal down to edge Bloemfontein Celtic 2-1 in the Premiership on Wednesday night.

Aidan Jenniker netted a stunning long-range winner in the 88th minute after his teammate Nathan Paulse cancelled out Vuyani Ntanga's 62nd minute opener at Cape Town Stadium.

It was the Urban Warriors' third victory on the trot, moving them up to seventh in the standings, while Celtic are in 10th place after their six-game unbeaten run came to an end.

Phunya Sele Sele started brightly, creating two chances early on to test Anssi Jaakkola in goal.

The first arrived when miscommunication in the Ajax defence left them vulnerable, forcing Jaakkola to react quickly in order to take the ball away from Frank Mhango’s feet. The ball, however, landed near Ntanga, who shot from range, but it went straight down the middle.

As the game progressed, there was little goalmouth action to write home about and Ntanga again tried his luck from range in the 20th minute. However, it sailed high of the frame.

Five minutes later Mhango, or 'Gabadinho' as he is affectionately known, shot from range and it too went well wide.

The home side were forced into making an early substitution eight minutes before the break when Toriq Losper had to be replaced for Telinho due to a stomach bug.

It should have been 1-0 to Ajax straight after the restart when Lebogang Manyama drifted a ball through to Eleazar Rodgers, but instead of sliding it into the back of the net, the former Santos man toe-poked it wide.

Another injury-enforced substitution had to be implemented by Ajax when Rodgers suffered a gash to his head in the 53rd minute, seeing him replaced by Paulse.

Jaakkola pulled off a remarkable save six minutes later when he tipped Gabadinho’s shot from range over the goal, but there was nothing he could do about Ntanga’s goal just past the hour-mark.

The striker broke through the Ajax backline to nod in a superb long ball by ex-Urban Warrior Clayton Daniels.

Celtic’s lead only lasted seven minutes, however, as Paulse made it 1-1 thanks to a well-worked run by Man of the Match Keagan Dolly. Dolly gathered the ball on the halfway line before running up the park and slotting it through to the experienced striker, who finished in clinical style.

Jaakkola pulled off another world-class save to tip Ntanga’s right-footed strike onto the bar and out, but it was Jenniker who had the last say on proceedings.

The left-back thundered in a powerful left-footed strike which rattled the back of Patrick Tignyemb’s goal in the dying stages of the encounter.

Fellas whatcha all think. I think Nthete should quit Celtics and go to Pierats. Playing with amateurs at Celtics will kill his football. Believe me i hate Pierats, well i am a diehard Khosi. But Pierats need him more than Chiefs and Sundowns. We have Matoho, Mashamaite, Gould and Bukenya. Dunusa has Shootme, Shoesomething and 10 others. Pierats is semi retired Grandpa Sancoweni, Semi retired Lecowthi, Cowqaba and Macowmuts( the only better defender). Chiefs can use Nyatama while waiting for Manzini to mature.

I think Chiefs should think about loaning Celtics Masango, Hlongwa, that Nike striker and Jambo. They can certainly use them.

They can't trade anymore, I don't what the so called profesional run team have done to the markert. Money talks, so they must spend, otherwise they will lose gudplayers, replace them with bukenyas. They have vodacom sponsor, they have the 10 mil absa price, and also nedbank.

Or they must just reopen their development. The bench against PTa university was imbarassinf for a big team.
