Platinum Stars overcome AmaZulu and a torrential downpour to seal a 1-0 victory in their League clash at the Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace and move back into the top eight on Wednesday.

A second-half penalty from Vuyo Mere sealed a deserved win for Dikwena, who leap-frog Usuthu into seventh and end a run of three straight defeats.

It was a game with few clear-cut chances, but what there were fell the way of the home side, who were good value for the three points.

Siphelele Mthembu headed over the bar early on, before teeing up Robert Ng’ambi for a shot that went wide.

Mere and Sibusiso Hadebe twice then had opportunities to score but spurned them and the teams went into the break at 0-0.

The rain led to a lengthy delay and it seemed at one point as though the game would not restart, but eventually it cleared and play could continue.

Stars finally got their goal on 55 minutes when John Arwuah was adjudged to have handled in the area and skipper Mere stepped up to convert the spot-kick.

There was little in the way of goal-mouth action after that, but Stars continued to control the game and the half-chances fell their way, though they failed to convert any.
